Les Pezerolles Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

Lyle Fass

An epic epic Pezerolles. Unreal nose. Superbly floral and just so gorgeous. Red cherry, black cherry, floral again, hint of licorice. So stunningly fragrant. Just bright and lifted. Palate is just oozing with gorgeous pure fruit. Red fruit driven with a black fruit edge to it. Sappy and so complete. What a long finish. Stoney aromas after some air. Palate has melty tannins that are so fine. Seems a bit closed initially but the super long finish makes me think this has more to say. 9.3 for now. I’ll be back.

This opened up after air end a day and became much more integrated. It’s a big wine in need of age but a smokeshow. 9.3 to 9.4 but with age will be 9.6

Montmain Chablis Premier Cru Chardonnay 2018

First time having Montmain. Lemon curd, lime zest, tons of minerality, precisely driven mouthfeel, salinity, lots of lees contact, mouth filling acidity and a long finish. — 6 days ago

Clos de la Cure Pommard Pinot Noir 2018

Lyle Fass

Nose is tight out of the gates. Some cherry cola, dustiness. Pulverized rock dust. Really quiet at the moment but I have faith. 18’s are built like brick houses. More aromas coming but all mineral. Fruit is buried here. Palate is super closed. Wow. This will need mega air. Like mega air. Huge grippy tannins and terrific fruit on the long finish. Easily a 1er Cru length finish. But this needs mega air. My score will rise. As this air the fruit expands on the palate. Massive power, depth and concentration. Exceptional length. Nose picks up a hint of licorice. 9.2 to 9.3 after 20 minutes. — 19 days ago

Clos de la Truffière Les Chaumées Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2015

Intense reduction initially, which with a sufficient decant blows off to reveal ripe yellow apple and pear, pastry cream and hints of baking spices. Great concentration, midpalate depth and balanced acidity with a long and intense finish. Great stuff. — 6 days ago

Les Chouacheux Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

Lyle Fass

Love this vineyard. First time from Rebourgeon. Sick nose. Pastille like cherries with gorgeous minerality. Awesome spice and wafting clean minerality. Incredible nose. Haunting and lifted. Palate is super juicy and elegant and filled to the brim with minerals. Terrific fruit intensity. Bright red cherries, some plum, and awesome chewy but melty tannins. Terrific concentration and power with a super energetic mid palate that leads into a very long finish slathered in minerals. Awesome finesse and Inner mouth aromas. An inner mouth confectionary aroma as well. So killer. This has superb structure and will last 10–15 years and needs 3-5 but can be drunk young. Really persistent. — a month ago

Les Brouillards Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

Lyle Fass

Superb tiny berry fruit intensity on a slab of stones. Superb mineral perfume. Beautiful mashed dark and light red flowers. Stunningly elegant and precise. Dizzying. I love Volnay. Palate is structured and so deep and initially a bit closed. Complex, stoney, sappy and superbly concentrated. Fruit is there but has a major mineral grip on it like so many 18 1er Crus at this early stage. Clean, compact and precise but really in need of 5 years. Now while 17 was wide open young this will not be. But what a wine. Amazing palate presence. Incredible fruit. — 19 days ago

Michel & Stéphane Ogier (d'Ampuis)

La Rosine Syrah 2015

A genuinely exciting wine, this entry-level bottling from Stephane Ogier is a brilliant expression of northern Rhône Syrah that ticks many of the varietal boxes. Aromatic and fresh, with dark plum, cherry compote, dark chocolate, espresso and a slight blueberry note that almost contributes to a Barossa character, it feels generous on the palate with moderate tannin and acidity alongside notes of black pepper and black tea. The ABV of 12.5% is also refreshing. — 5 days ago
