Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier

Lieu Dit Malakoff Pyrenees Shiraz 2005

Feels the (likely) acid addition, but delicious in a very Oz way. Ready to go. May improve, but may also become more disjointed. — 19 days ago

Interesting to see the involvement of Chapoutier. He also does a joint venture with Ron Laughton of Jasper Hill in Heathcote.

Thanks for your note, Bob I wasn't aware of the Jasper Hill connection. The Terlato project has several price points with the entry level interesting for its lightness, and tart acidity that feels a bit more natural, but perhaps percieved of as atypical by most US consumers.

Crawford River

Riesling 2013

This has matured beautifully over the years. White flowers and stone fruit with nuances of honey. The nose of an off dry Riesling but definitely dry at 13% ABV. Peachy stone fruit medium weight flavours - low acid with excellent length. A luscious dry Riesling drinking at its peak. One of Australia’s better Rieslings. — 2 months ago

How does Polish Hill stack up to this, @Bob McDonald? Thanks.

@Ron R Haven’t had enough of either to make an informed decision. Suffice to say they are both excellent. I really liked the fulsome mid palate of the Crawford River over the Grosset Polish Hill. The latter probably has longevity on its side.

Blue Pyrenees Estate

Red Blend 2017

Fantastic stuff. Blue/plum fruit, a hint of menthol/eucalyptus, racy acidity, bright minerality, grippy tannins. If I’d not read the back label first I might have mistaken it for Shiraz. After 30min I got more of the chocolatey red currant notes of the Cab. The flavor profile of this is uniquely Aussie. Out of my #grassl1855 — 3 days ago

Don't tell Gary Shiraz 2017

Truly a top notch Aussie Shiraz. This is made like they used to be made. Plenty of pepper and a lot of ballsie fruit. Big and bold... don't tell Gazza! — a month ago

Eastern Peake

Pinot Taché On Lees Pinot Noir Rosé 2017

Definitely serious rosé. Almost stern, like it’s looking down its nose at us for expecting anything as frivolous as a crisp and lively Provençal rosé. It has weight and textures and is almost a bit much as an aperitif, but all makes sense when the food arrives. It paired well with baked salmon and could probably take on more serious dishes — I can see it working well with charcuterie on a spring afternoon. Good concentration and length. Interesting wine. — 11 days ago

Methode Traditionnelle Sparkling Shiraz

Very strong in flavour and balance needs to air out. Excellent with food on a hot day. Very different from most sparkling wines — 16 days ago

St Peters Grampians Shiraz 2004

Still buzzing with life from fine integrated tannins and bright fresh qcidity. Red fruit mixed with darker bramble Fruit. Fine boned, power without weight. Long. And rather good. — a month ago
