Chevalier Du Grand Robert

Louis Latour

Les Demoiselles Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 1986

Deep gold color. Motor oil weight in the glass. Happy to find the nose has some interesting notes and doesn’t signal the wine is too advanced. Candied apricot. Kiwi fruit, apple slices, pebble stones, sweet lemon. Good structure. Great finish. Maybe just a hint oxidized but overall a great old white burg experience. — 13 days ago

Grand Cru Classe De Graves Pessac Leognan 2010

A really elegant and balanced wine from a classical vintage. Lots of potential but decanted 45 minutes before it was very drinkable. It has the acidity and freshness of the 65% cab sauv but also the flesh of those 30% merlot. Really great wine and highly recommended. — 2 months ago

Deg. 03/18. This seriously benefitted from some additional wait time following disgorgement. — 2 months ago

Domaine de Chevalier

L'Esprit de Chevalier Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend

2015 vintage. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 10% petit verdot (compared to 55% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot for the grand vin). The grand vin is absolutely fabulous in this vintage, so it comes as no surprise that the lesser lots are pretty good too. The nose has some of the class of his big brother, with cassis, cedar wood and the typical spiciness, but without the ripeness and complexity. The mouth is pure and fresh with ripe cassis fruit and the acidity shining through a bit more here, but still it's layered, balanced and very attractive for one third of the price. A slight vegetal touch in both nose and aftertaste might be related to a higher percentage of Petit Verdot (?). By all standards a very nice Pessac-Léognan for the price, just don't compare it to the amazing grand vin. — 3 months ago

Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1995

From magnum. Decanted for 2 hours and consumed over the rest of the evening. Nice dark tawny color. Mostly translucent. Bright, bing cherry nose. Also notes of earth, red licorice, rhubarb. Big and powerful in the mouth. The exotic perfume grows as this wine gets time to open in the glass. Later in the evening this was singing. This large format bottle could easily have delivered more pleasure for another 10 years. — 3 months ago
