Berry pepper nose, nice. The edges tingle my nostrils, also pleasant. A tinge of meatiness lingers. Definitely get the berry-cherry hit, and that meatiness in the nose is also present. The tannins are not hard but soft and pleasant. Great sipper on its own, and I think could handle a hearty meal. — 22 days ago

Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Dourthe managed this estate for the Japanese owners (Mercian) since 2001 and finally bought it in 2014. The soils are somewhat atypical for the Médoc, with a lot of clay, which explains why Reysson has probably the highest Merlot content (92%) on the left bank. Cru Bourgeois Supérieur. Another great Bordeaux value. Black cherries and very subtle oak. Round and balanced, with the high (abv. 14,5 %) alcohol well-integrated. Soft tannic structure and good length. — 12 days ago

Oof, lovely balance of power and finesse. Wild-grown red and black cherries/berries with a tug-of-war between earth and fruit. Some clay. Tannins still need some integration and this vintage would be best with a few more years; 4-8 ideal. Lovely to drink; enjoyed with duck which was a treat to pair. — 8 days ago

This Pichon-Baron was in the earliest peak of its window, pure ✏️ and graphite cigar box nose, rich, intense, leading cassis, tar and a mineral and wonderfully tannic trip over the palate and a long, 40 second finish that was reminiscent dry red clay. Good news: I have 11 more in the case I cracked last night. Bad news: I’ll be in my 60’s before these open up and the secondary stuff really starts to show. — 15 days ago

Les Folatieres Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 1990

Tasted blind. Medium gold color. Killer old white burg nose. Notes of lemon creme, white dry soil, some spice, a little honey. Rich and powerful in the mouth. Some fine acidity on the finish causes some pucker. Very interesting overall profile, and my guess is I’ve never had this before which is accurate. I go with a 95 Corton Charlie as a guess. The power and great mouthfeel expanded as this absorbed air over the afternoon. Each sip better than the last. — 18 days ago

A honeyed, aromatic beauty. Grilled pineapple, apricot, and white peach, pain grillé, marzipan, lychee, rose petal, clay pot, acerola cherry, sandalwood. On the palate, it’s viscous with notes of beeswax and lanolin. Salty homemade play-doh. Savory with bright acidity and a long, honeyed finish.
