2018 vintage. First visit with this producer as it's rarely glimpsed in the Southern California market. Smoky, plummy nose. Medium body. Smooth, velveteen entry on the front palate that cruises the length of the performance until the fine-grained tannins at the conclusion. Super classy. Exactly zero speedbumps at this juncture. Refined enough to appeal to long-time BDX drinkers and inviting enough to welcome first-time BDX initiates. Showing beautifully now with very little to resolve. No personal history to draw on with this property but stylistically and regionally, feel this can easily go 10-12 years without effort/variation. A physically pristine example from a well established cellar, the cork pulled clean and without so much as a hint of compromise. It was subsequently double decanted several hours in advance. The 2000 Margaux pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. The nose: developing and simply stunning. A cornucopia of cassis, black bramble fruit, purple flowers, tobacco, new leather, cocoa, fine woody notes, dry gravelly earth and gorgeous baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid; the structure acting like the flying buttresses of Notre Dame. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is forever long and impossibly silky. Sensationally balanced.

To my palate, this falls into the very small category of wines that require no additional inquest. It is utterly complete. And, when I consider the company and circumstances, perfect. Drink now with a healthy decant and through 2100. — 24 days ago

Medium ruby , garnet rim . Nice juicy , cassis , blackberry and some red plum , red cherry notes . On the palate quite rich and round, with sweet summer fruits and a spicy tobacco tinged , grafite note . Quite sweet and decadent on the palate , quite rich . Balanced acidity and grippy , grainy tannin . This needs a bit more time , come back in 5-10 years and should show well a further 10 . — a month ago

Wine stimulates our sense of smell and taste but in this case it also created a tidal wave of emotion. Through a tremendous act of generosity a dear friend shared this special bottle when he heard me lament I was not able to secure a bottle of wine to celebrate my mother’s 100 birthday. My friend stood the bottle up for several days. We decided it made sense to PnP. As you can see the cork was intact and the color of the wine defied its age. The excitement to take that first sniff was overwhelming for me. Old but alive scents wowed me. Lots of tobacco, leaves, leather and dried fruit. In the mouth those same scents were transferred to my palate thanks to a tsunami of acid. At about the one hour mark the wine quickly entered a death spiral. I cannot imagine another bottle of wine that will ever conjure up that amount of emotion and happiness. When I described my experience to my mom, a very broad smile came over her face. A blessing to share this experience with my mom and a privilege to taste a wine like this. — 6 days ago

Medium ruby , terracotta , garnet rim . Quite aromatic , with cedar , tobacco , leafy redcurrant , blackcurrant , wet earth. Slightly rounded and red fruit focused sous bois on the palate , quite high acidity , but refined and red fruit focused. Slightly green tannins , but overall reasonable mineral tinged length . Tasted this one blind. First thing i wrote in my notes was ”really tasty”. I thought this was a Sancerre with some oak. Really fresh with depth. Not a combination I usually find in a wine like this. Impressive. — 22 days ago
