Château Franc Pourret

Château Marjosse

Cuvée Ortolan Cabernet Franc 2018

2018 vintage. Cuvée Ortolan, 100% Cabernet Franc aka Bouchet. If anyone should know about the heights perfectly ripe Cabernet Franc can achieve, it would be Pierre Lurton, also the manager of Cheval Blanc where Cabernet Franc is the most planted grape variety (52%). This minuscule production (5297 bottles) of pure Cabernet Franc at his own estate Château Marjosse is a sheer delight. Very attractive nose with raspberry, flowers, a hint of fresh rosemary and a subtle dash of pepper. In the mouth it is all about finesse with a Burgundian-like velvety texture, with layers of predominantly red fruits, fresh acidity, refined tannin and a long finish with retronasal fruit and a delicate spiciness. The 14% abv. alcohol goes unnoticed. Beware: this is very hard to resist, be prepared to finish a whole bottle by yourself. Very impressive. — 7 days ago

Perus Wine

Alessio Proprietary Red Blend 2016

PerUs Wine Company Proprietary Red Wine Alessio 2016, Napa Valley, California

To celebrate 15,000 followers on Vivino, i had to open something special.

Inky in color with a short reddish rim.

Strong nose of blackberries, black plums, cedar, light earth, licorice, vanilla, eucalyptus, chocolates, alcohol, herbs, coffee, spices and black pepper.

Full bodied, bold and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and extremely fruity with blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, figs, raisins, vanilla, cedar, cola, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, spices, alcohol, peppercorn and coffee.

Long finished with fine grained tannins and cherries.

This is just too delicious. What a great red from Napa Valley. An excellent Bordeaux blend.

Rich, dense, opulent, spicy, bold and elegant. Showing nice complexity with a great mouthfeel. Powerful and not for the timid.

Loved the nose and smelled on it for a while.

Although this is so tasty now, it is a sin to open it this young, as it has so much more potential. Will age nicely in the next 5 to 15 years.

The only other wine that I gave such a high score, at this young age, was the Penfolds Grange. I would love to try the two together at the same time. That would be very interesting.

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up. I gave it 6 hours in a decanter, and checked it periodically. Tannins come in after 6 hours, so be patient.

Good by itself or with food. A fabulous wine to share with friends and talk about.

I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

15.2% alcohol by volume.

97 points.

King Family Vineyards

Small Batch Series King Family Cabernet Franc 2018

This is a very nice Cabernet Franc from Virginia. Fruit forward with a nice mouthfeel and nice complexity.

Showing red and blue fruits with wood, spices, earth, light vegetables, tobacco leaf, spices, cocoa and coffee.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Very enjoyable by itself or with food. Tangy and easy drinking.

I had it a few months ago, and this time I gave it a light chill and had it by the pool.

Only 12.4% alcohol by volume, which is really nice to see.

90 points.

Pinnacle Ridge

Lehigh Valley Cabernet Franc 2018

Who knew they made great wine in the Lehigh Valley? This is the top grape in the region according to the producer. Shockingly good. Ripe berries, delicious soil, and well balanced. Will be buying again. Thanks to Peggy @ Earth for hooking it up. A very nice first Pennsylvanian wine for me. — 9 days ago

Andrew Will

Two Blondes Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2017

Thursday night and I have opened the 2017 Andrew Will Two Blondes Vineyard Cabernet Franc. It is a beautiful bottle of wine to start the weekend off right. Then again i do have an affinity for Cabernet Franc and Andrew Will wines.

On the nose there is good fruit of strawberry, cherry, raspberry, red plum, roasted red pepper, bell pepper, violet and crushed gravel.

On the palate there is raspberry, strawberry, red plum, green bell pepper, red currant, new oak and forrest floor

This wine is medium to full bodied with medium + acidity and medium + fine tannins that move seamlessly into a long fresh red fruit finish. This is just another reason why I have come to enjoy the Andrew Will wines. This weekend is already starting out right. Have a great weekend and please stay healthy and safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Pillitteri Estates Winery

Reserve Exclamation Cellar Series Cabernet Franc

I purchased this bottle in 2008 while working and Toronto and joy traveling in Niagara! Nice take on one of their first attempts at solid Franc. It’s aged nicely with softened tannins and subdued fruits. Aniseed and ripe fruit drive the nose through a softer matured flavor profile. — 2 days ago

Finger Lakes Cabernet Franc 2017

Very plum and dark fruit. Does not have the green ripeness sometime you can get. Lush mouthfeel with solid tannins on the finish. Very good wine from a winery that coaxes a lot from red grapes. Drink now though. — 2 days ago

Domaine Bernard Baudry

Les Grézeaux Chinon Cabernet Franc 2018

Brilliant magenta. Maybe the most delicious young Chinon (or cab franc for that matter) I’ve ever tasted. Pure varietal character with no compromises— all the freshness, lightness and peppery bite one wants— yet with perfect ripeness. And by that I mean this hovers on that magical edge where the grapes must have been picked at the ideal moment, down to the minute, to produce something not just giving but with all sorts of push and pull. Flirtatious, seductive.
The fruit and flowers are achingly fresh: black raspberries, red and black currants, elderberry, violets, roses, fresh herbs, and an ever so slight cocoa sweetness. Spot on acid and the tannins are handled so deftly that you hardly notice.
I can’t get enough of this. Masterful wine, drinking beautifully but should only get better.

@Josh Morgenthau Baudry is the producer that dominates the bottle count in my cellar. Grézeaux ages beatifully. Recently, I oppened an 2005, and it was stunning. A few times, I participated in blind tastings with top Loire CF , including Rougeard, Guiberteau, Joguet and Alliet, and Baudry always finished in the top 3. Amazing QPR!

@Francis le cave I’m with you there! The Baudrys probably outnumber all of red burgundy in my cellar. Actually, the producer holds a special significance for me; one of my fondest memories is visiting the domaine and tasting the 2005s with Mathieu on the trip that I credit with sparking my love of wine about 13 years ago. I returned to the states with an extra suitcase of Chinon!
