Tasted double blind. Poured a light straw color. Oh. Snap. The nose is so compelling with strong mineral aromas of crushed rock, star fruit, and lime. The palate gets blanketed with bright tropical fruits, lime-ade and minerals...and minerals...and minerals. So much intensity!! Laser focused acid. Fabulous balance. The finish lasts for several minutes...and you love every second of it. It comes across so young. A tremendous wine. — 5 days ago
Ever so slightly oxed but like...it’s 24 years old. And it’s really damn good. Got that lovely old white wine dehydrated pee color. Nutty, butterscotch, marzipan, lemon curd, baked apple, creamy tangerine, mineral, iodine, smoke. And the acid is still so lively. Still evolving after 90 minutes. — 7 days ago
An epic epic Pezerolles. Unreal nose. Superbly floral and just so gorgeous. Red cherry, black cherry, floral again, hint of licorice. So stunningly fragrant. Just bright and lifted. Palate is just oozing with gorgeous pure fruit. Red fruit driven with a black fruit edge to it. Sappy and so complete. What a long finish. Stoney aromas after some air. Palate has melty tannins that are so fine. Seems a bit closed initially but the super long finish makes me think this has more to say. 9.3 for now. I’ll be back.
This opened up after air end a day and became much more integrated. It’s a big wine in need of age but a smokeshow. 9.3 to 9.4 but with age will be 9.6 — 3 days ago
Light yellow gold. Bright fruit forward nose. Notes of lemon and apricot, wet gravel stone, some honey and a delicious spice. Fine grained acidity hits the mouth and makes an impact. Great nose powers up over the evening. Still young and needs more time to improve. Lighter in the mid palate but still outperforms expectations. — 6 days ago
Just on the other side of peak. Love it.
So this wine is critically in its last year. Not the case at all. Still had five years of good life in it.
I think people are so used to drinking wine young, critics purposely conservatively set their drinking windows to the younger side.
This 06 is just and I mean just the other side of its bell curve. I enjoy them at that stage and in fact, live on those descriptive edges quite often. .
