Stanton & Killeen

Grand Rutherglen Topaque Tokay

See recent notes for the Stanton and Killeen Grand Muscat. This is the Topaque (cannot call it Tokay any more) made from the Muscadelle grape. Like the Grand Muscat the average blended age is 15 to 20 years. Very similar in flavour profile with the Muscat, the latter probably a bit sweeter with more molasses notes. This Topaque is a tiny bit more bitter with caramel, toffee and a lot of liquid raisin character. Thoroughly delicious. These old Rutherglen fortifieds are one of Australia’s gifts to the vinous world. — 7 days ago

B Minor Victoria Shiraz 2017

Super smooth with a quite mild taste. Doesn’t feel too deep or shallow, slight peppery berry taste but nothing too strong. — 6 days ago

Stanton & Killeen

Grand Rutherglen Muscat

This Grand Muscat is a step up from the Classic 12 year old I tasted 95 weeks ago. Liquid raisins, milk chocolate and toffee with incredible intensity. These are great to sip after dinner in winter but not as appealing as the weather warms up unless served with a slight chill. I hope the coming Summer is not as destructive as last Summer. — 10 days ago

Blue Pyrenees Estate

Section One Shiraz 2017

Wow. Stunning. Bright blue fruit, vibrant acid, balanced tannin and oak. I should have saved this. Youthful, will age for a decade or more.

Grampians Estate

GST Grampians Grenache Blend 2015

Delectable this is a straight Grenache, not offered in your range - not a Grenache blend. The colour is mid red Crimson with a tawny note. Pronounced raspberry with a confectionery jujube note on the barely medium weight palate with spice and earth overtones. Soft velvety tannins - not for long keeping. — 10 days ago

Bass Phillip

The Estate Pinot Noir 2010

See many previous notes of this excellent Pinot Noir. My last 2010 Bass Phillip Estate sadly. Pale to mid Ruby in colour giving no hint of the intensity to come. A floral earthy perfume showing beetroot and red fruits - a hint of whole bunch in the ferment. On the palate the same earthy root vegetable flavours with savoury red fruits and that Bass Phillip palate intensity with great length and persistence. Low acidity. An excellent new world Pinot which has cellared well. — 10 days ago
