Wente Vineyards

Charles Wetmore Livermore Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

This wine is extremely dark in the glass and offers a nose to match. Blackberry aromas are laced with cedar, vanilla, clove and tobacco. The palate is dark, too, and rich. The fruit flavors are in the front while savory notes complement them. There is a rustic feel, and the tannins are firm. — 5 days ago

Azelia

San Rocco Barolo Nebbiolo 2001

Full on tar and roses that took a good hour to come out. Burg-like in its vibe, lots of tension but managing to be smooth, leather-bound and loaded with extracted cherry and strawberry compote. Smoke. Soooooo long. — 20 hours ago

Burgundian in style. Citrus and flint nose. Medium in body. Almond, vanilla, and wet stone. Firm acidity with a pineapple finish. Great with king crab legs in a lemon chili butter. #ridgewines #rokaakor — 5 hours ago

Cuda Ridge Wines

Livermore Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Here is my #FridayCabernetfix for this week.

Pretty color of dark ruby, with a cloudy reddish rim.

Fruity nose with blueberries, currants, cherries, light wood, honeysuckle, spices, pencil lead, earth, herbs, black pepper and dark coffee.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with red currants, black plums, oak, tobacco, earth, spices, licorice, light vegetables, dark coffee, cloves, herbs and peppercorn.

Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a nice Cabernet based Bordeaux blend from California. Showing a nice mouthfeel at this point, with mild complexity.

I had it last year, and this time I gave it a couple of hours in a decanter to open up.

Showing interesting notes of honeysuckle, which surprised me. This five year old is soft and engaging. Tangy and interesting.

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with salami, Brie cheese and crackers.

Aged for 29 months in French Oak barrels. A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec.

13.8% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$40.

Cara Sur

Criolla Barreal Finca Maggio Uva Criolla Chica 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

A Criolla Chica planted in Barreal, Calingasta, at 1,550 meters above sea level, up to 10% fermented in whole bunches. Terracotta in hue, it presents notes of strawberry, damp earth, herbs and traces of menthol as well as faint aromas of almond cookie and rum cake. Offers a complex mix of simple flavors; on the palate, the tannins are active with heightened freshness and a ruggedness that sticks to the gums, while the innate fruitiness comes out at the back of the throat. A great wine with a profile one rarely sees in reds on the local scene. (Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous, October 2020) — 17 days ago

Las Positas

Estate Livermore Valley Petite Sirah 2016

A very pretty color of dark ruby, with a wide reddish rim.

Nice nose of blueberries, violets, blackberries, black cherries, light oak, vanilla, chocolates, licorice, spices, black pepper, earth and pencil lead. Very enjoyable nose.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, strawberries, red currants, spices, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs, dark chocolates, coffee and peppercorn.

Medium plus on the finish with soft tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a very nice and easy drinking Petite Sirah from California. Showing mild complexity with a nice mouthfeel. Nice and tangy. Spicy, smooth and elegant.

Interesting to see black fruits on the nose and red fruits on the palate. I really enjoyed the nose.

Needs 30 minutes of airtime, and good by itself or with food. Would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years.

I paired it with salami and cheddar cheese.

13.9% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

EQ Limited Edition Valle Hermoso Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

Another Cabo Costco find for under $15. I’m not a Pinot fan, didn’t have high hopes for a PN from Chile but was surprised by this wine, probably because it has more characteristics of a cab than a Pinot. — 12 days ago
