Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello

Monprivato di Castiglione Falletto Barolo Nebbiolo 2018

What I know about this wine is it’s huge aging potential; what I didn’t know was that their skill level is so high that even their young Barolos — if this bottle is indicative —are complete, perfectly balanced, and taste as if they are made to drink now! This wine was much more delicate, floral, Burgundian, and tea-scented than I expected compared to the other notable Barolo producers I have experienced. What a stunning introduction to this producer! — a day ago

Ripe cherry and plum fruit, with licorice, tobacco and earth. Muscular and well balanced. Excellent Brunello.

Riserva Monfortino Barolo Nebbiolo 1958

A little tang and tobacco. Pure dark cherry fruit. Some saddle leather and funky beef. A slight edge of balsamic. Good stuff — 5 days ago

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2016

This is squarely in my wheelhouse. Love this wine. Love this producer. Needed 45 minutes to open. The cork was only lightly stained and no sediment in bottle. This is still a young wine but bursting. Lots of fruit. Well balanced. Grippy and long. It has a maturity and a complexity despite its age. Another winner. — 4 days ago

Langhe Nebbiolo 2021

Staying on the Nebbiolo trail
Vibrant, energetic, fresh & juicy. Full of sweet cherry & raspberry, with a flower whiff and a stony-tarry undertone. So enticing!
Medium bodied, with juicy cherry acidity and amazing tannins - silky, finely grained, offering ajuicy, yet firm bite. Perfectly ripe.
Nice depth & purity and great cherry & cherry flower note.
This an ode to youth! Keep your Barbaresco Rosetta’s till they aged with truffle & balsamico while you devour the young, crunchy, joyful „simple” Nebbiolos.
Yum!

Started off wary and cautious, then went ape shit with all the requisite autumn forest, damp earth, mature fruit, etc. Hard to ask for more. Strong ligaments, tendons and connective tissue. Minimal body fat. — 22 days ago

Cantina Bartolo Mascarello

Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Old world wine that I’ll ponder later tonight in the dream world. Like a college 101 course in Barolo’s of another age. Leathery, tannic, balanced, dark cherry and plum, copper. A young gal out at her first dance, yet waltzing with the seductive wisdom of generations. Deeply grateful to know people who treat me to such divinity. — 6 days ago

SP68 Bianco Terre Siciliane Albanello Muscat of Alexandria 2022

Exotic. Dried tangerine peel, flowers and herbs, lemon zest and a tingle of spiced honey. Absolutely takes off with cuisine, had Sicilian shrimp and pasta with it. Really showed its depth and expansive qualities. — 16 hours ago

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia

Bolgheri Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Garnet , ruby core , with terracotta rim . Quite ripe juicy nose , blueberry , blackberry , with an earthy , cedar tinged note and touch of mint . On the palate more reserved , with dark cassis , blackberry , scorched earth , tobacco , cedar . Good refreshing acidity , slightly drying tannin. Quite good length, after a while a mineral , crushed rock note . This is at peak now in magnum, for now and the next 5-8 years . Bottles drink now and over the next few years I would imagine — 16 days ago
