Haven’t had a Lagrein in quite some time.
This is typically dark both in colour & flavour with fresh, ripe blueberries & huckleberries, some dark plums and a healthy pinch of exotic spice - anise, allspice, cardamom, black pepper.
On the palate this is silky & plush yet with vibrant acidity and nice juicy tannins. Good weight & length, with the wood perfectly integrated & showing a nice backdrop to the ripe fruit.
A lovely wine. — 5 months ago
This was very expressive, but I found the stone and tropical fruit to be a bit overpowering. Perhaps this could in fact mellow out for a year or two. In any case, a wine that without a doubt has a lot going on; good acid, stone, and a wide array of fruit that moves between ripe orchard fruit and more exotic pineapple and tangerine. — a month ago
Very nice elegant wine. Well balanced. Has nice acidity, decent tannins, and some tart berries fruit profile. Nice food wine. Buy again. Very good weekday wine. — 8 months ago
Had on Ben's birthday weekend in Paso (before dinner on Sunday). Light gold in color. Vibrant acidity and good minerality. Very good QPR.

The 2018 Lagrein from Abbazia di Novacella in Alto Adige is dark and savory from the first taste, boasting a gorgeous bouquet of black cherry, blueberry, brown spice, sage and peppery florals. It has a juicy and gracious personality with captivating grip. A gateway expression of Lagrein. $20.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, October 2020) — 8 months ago
