Law Estate Wines

Beguiling by Law Grenache - Syrah Blend

Even in the Rhone Valley, Rhone blends don’t get any better than this. Heck, very few California wines get better than this! Sitting on a thousand foot deep (at least!) layer cake of limestone and Miocene sea sediments, the Law vineyards produce some of the most deliciously calcaire wines I’ve ever tasted. Absolute bliss to drink.

On the nose: oregano, mint, and 300-year-old books bound in old leather on the nose. Thick cassis fruit and a hint of eucalyptus on the front. Fruity but not jammy! After the foretaste, this wine is held together with soft limestone tannins. The mid-palate is full of mineral high notes underlaid by fifty-million years of plate tectonics. You’re drinking geologic history here as selectively interpreted by Syrah and Grenache grapes! It’s as if you’re tasting what the grape roots are tasting! Not a particularly long finish, but all the same it’s extremely satisfying. Again with the mineral high notes plus eucalyptus, but they’re all balanced by a cool minty soothingness at the back of the throat. Absolutely lovely!

Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2019

Perhaps the best young Châteauneuf-du-Pape that I’ve ever tasted, this extraordinary wine has power, but also elegance; purity, but also enormity; sweetness, but also umami. The aromas are classic for the appellation, with sweet blue fruit, Turkish delight, soy, coffee, heady garrigue and smoked bacon. But it’s the palate that steals the show, gobsmackingly gorgeous, with enormous presence and a near-perfect harmony between intense, dark, sweet fruit from the century-old Grenache, and bitter coffee, orange peel and a thousand other flavours that carry through to the finish. Super strong tannins at the moment; this wine will age superbly. The finish is incredibly long. They only make one cuvée each of red and white at Vieux Donjon - no high end bottling - and it shows in the incredible quality of this wine, which is up there with the very best. — a year ago

Château Malescot St. Exupéry

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

WOW! Haven't had wine this good since France...sigh. love this, so complex with a beautiful color. Lovely on the nose, I hesitate to drink it since the aroma is so pleasant. They should make candles that smell this nice. Beautifully balanced with just the right amount of earth, tannins, fruit. ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ — a year ago

La Chouffe Belgian Golden Ale

Now that I’ve earned my stripes with over a thousand wines… Here’s my first, ever, beer post. Belgian strong pale ale: coriander, sweet tangerine, honey, toasty, classic Belgian yeast. Love this beer. Cheers. — 2 years ago
