One of the few CA Chardonnay I enjoy. You can spend more on one, but for under $40, this works really well.
Arnot-Robert’s rides the fence of CA Chardonnay & White Burgundy nicely. Has a bit of Ca Chardonnay backbone with the creamy body of White Burgundy.
Nose does not show much at first. Green apple, pear, lemon, lime. White peach, caramel notes, cardamom, paraffin, cream, yellow & spring flowers.
The body is creamy with nice viscosity. Green apple, pear, lemon, lime. White peach, caramel notes, cardamom, paraffin, cream, very light honey notes, sea spray, light chalkiness, yellow & spring flowers. Excellent round acidity, beautiful, soft structure, well balanced and a pleasant finish.
A couple more years in bottle add a point or two & more complexity. .
A little history from their website. Watson Ranch Vineyard is perched on a steep hillside overlooking the San Pablo Bay at the southernmost end of the Napa Valley. The ranch was named after early Napa attorney, Augustus Watson, who owned the property in the early 1900s. The adjacent property is an abandoned limestone quarry which historically employed over 300 people, mining material to make portland cement used to rebuild San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake. — a year ago
Coming from the old quarry behind the Perrieres premier cru area. Very aromatic nose of white fruit, some mint and a touch of oak it seems. The palate is round, rich, mineral and intense, yet with energy and a lot of precision of flavours, i am sure in a blind tasting that the friends would call a much higher level wine, at minimum a Meursault Villages, what a great success from Valentin Jobard.

100% Nebbiolo grown on terraces at the entry of the Aosta. Alley in Alto Piemonte.
Fermented & aged in acacia.
A crunchy, juicy light face of Nebbiolo. Lots of fresh red fruit, a bit of cherry and bit of flowery. Let’s, some crushed rock, freshly baked bread. Fairly light, very joyful, very enticing.
On the palate this is equally light & fresh. Just a bit of tanin, juicy fruity acidity and amazing purity. Light yet with depth and an edge. A joy to sip!
Cheap as chips for this level of quality & joy. — 9 months ago
Don Melchor comes from a unique 313-acre vineyard planted on the rock soils of one of the Maipo River’s oldest terraces at the foot of the Andes Mountains, one of the world’s most celebrated terroirs for cabernet sauvignon.
The 2014 Don Melchor Puente Alto Vineyard gives both old world and new world expressions. This wine is full-bodied, rich, and elegant. Dark red fruit. Beautifully balanced. The vintage is 92% cabernet sauvignon and 8% cabernet franc. I recommend a healthy decant before enjoying.
If in Dallas right now, I recommend sitting with this one next to a fireplace. — 2 years ago
Huge and expansive nose. Ripe apricot and peach and very confectionary. Grapefruit, citrus, tangerine, tangelo and so much more. An amalgam of stunning fruit on a mineral background. Hugely expressive minerality and just a stunningly mineral nose. Smells like a rock quarry. Awesome. The nose is so deep. Kaleidoscopic and fractal like. Palate is young and tangy with enormous structure but it’s delicate and a little bit hidden. Not that integrated at all but all the parts are there. Incredible fruit sapidity on the finish. Huge mineral/citrus inner mouth aromas. Juicy and mineral but man is this backwards. The finish is super long and the wine is crazy concentrated but massively backwards. I’ll be back. — 3 years ago
