92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cab Franc. The Cab Franc shimmers in the background giving lovely herbal and violet notes - dried thyme, fennel, mint, tobacco leaf with blackberry, cassis, black cherry, leather, charcoal and graphite. Vibrant acidity, great length asks velvet tannins. Excellent balance of tannin, fruit and alcohol (14.5 abv). Gorgeous now but capacity to age another 10-15 years

Foot of the Andes on banks of Maipo River, 650 meters above sea level, vineyard dates back to mid-19th century, when first pre-phylloxera French varieties were brought to Chile, deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits & mineral notes, a blend of 92% Cab Sauv & 8% Cab Franc, aged for 15 month in French oak (65% new). On the palate flavors cherry & blackberry with powerful tannins, long finish, very tight, ending with mineral and tobacco notes. Also tried a year ago, still needs time. Tasting Sample!

Don Melchor comes from a unique 313-acre vineyard planted on the rock soils of one of the Maipo River’s oldest terraces at the foot of the Andes Mountains, one of the world’s most celebrated terroirs for cabernet sauvignon.

The 2014 Don Melchor Puente Alto Vineyard gives both old world and new world expressions. This wine is full-bodied, rich, and elegant. Dark red fruit. Beautifully balanced. The vintage is 92% cabernet sauvignon and 8% cabernet franc. I recommend a healthy decant before enjoying.

If in Dallas right now, I recommend sitting with this one next to a fireplace.

An expressive nose of ripe blackberries and cherries with a note of mint, fully bodied with a smoky finish

Something a bit special more bold bigger and stickier than a Bordeaux but not as loud as Aus or USA.
