Talley Vineyards Pinot Noir 2018

Delectable Wine

Talley’s entry-level Pinot Noir is a beauty in 2018. Well-concentrated and chewy in texture, it offers energetic cherry and redcurrant flavors, suave florality and an intriguing, earthy touch roasted beets. There’s distinct Old World character to this complex Pinot. $24.00 (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, November 2020) — 8 days ago

@Rob Brobst III they also make a pinot and chenin Blanc from the vineyard. Both are outstanding!

Wood Family Vineyards

One Oak Vineyard Merlot 2017

It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Nose of plums, cherries, currants, light wood, earth, licorice, spices, black pepper and light vegetables.

Full bodied, smooth and soft, with medium acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, tobacco, dark chocolates, bitter herbs, light vegetables, earth and peppercorn.

Medium finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very enjoyable Merlot from Livermore Valley in California. This Single Vineyard is nice and plush. Showing mild complexity with a soft, elegant mouthfeel.

Good right out of the bottle, but I gave it an hour to open up properly.

A nice wine to have by itself and better with food. Spicy, tangy and interesting.

I paired it with meats and cheeses. Paired very nicely with brie cheese.

100% Merlot grapes from a low yielding single Vineyard. Aged for 20 months in French Oak barrels. A small production of only 138 cases.

14% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

Cline Cellars

Small Berry Vineyard Mourvèdre 2002

Nose has blueberry jam, dried out brownie corner, dried blackberry, old leather and dried eucalyptus.

Palate has cedar & oak shavings, dark cocoa powder, blueberry-blackberry jam (low sugar), dried orange peel, (light) baking spice with light tannins and a long, dry finish. Decanted 3H.

Purchased several bottles in 2004, down to one left after this bottle. Last bottle was 213 weeks prior, and it assuredly didn't taste anything like this gem tonight. I recall heavy green notes and overbearing eucalyptus, even after 24 hours... I guess this just needed a solid 18 years to get going. Note to future self, last bottle should be 2022-26.

@Severn Goodwin Sounds like a good representation of Mourvèdre from your description.

Thanks @Bob McDonald This is the best of 5 out of 6 bottles acquired so far. California Mourvèdre bottles, when young, have been a tough sell for me in the past, they generally have been excessively green for my liking. This was an experiment to see how long it might last and see if still all the vegetation might drop out, success finally.

San Valentino Sangiovese Blend 2012

The right amount of barnyard funk that gradually recedes with cut strawberries and cherry liqueur, a hint of tobacco and a spicy finish. Love the Bea. — 12 days ago

Gorgeously expressive, explosively juicy, deeply stony, fantastically fresh, and black cherry herb gushing goodness. Hot damn, Cabernet like few know how to make it. — 4 days ago
