Tenuta San Leonardo

Rhys Vineyards

San Mateo County Pinot Noir 2010

Wasn’t sure what to expect from this 9 year old. Cork has that aged, permeated stain. Pours crimson. Nose is a tight integration of red fruits, white flowers, and white pepper. Palette shows racy yet controlled acid and a follow through of the nose. Very nice showing and vibrant. — 8 days ago

Murrieta's Well

Livermore Valley Dry Rosé Blend 2018

Fresh strawberries and cherries burst forth from the nose, with more of the same on the palate. The acidity is fresh and vibrant. This pale salmon rosé comes at the end of “rosé season,” but hang onto a bottle or two for Thanksgiving. It’s substantial enough for fall veggies, or turkey.

Sounds like it’s not 100% Merlot

@David Shaw - I believe it only has be 75% in order to just be called Merlot.

Laws, but that tobacco note suggests some Malbec or even Cabernet Sauvignon was added to the blend. “A rose by any other name”, then?

Mount Eden Vineyards

Domaine Eden Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Purple hue with secondary ruby notes. Candied black and red fruit, fig, smoked meat, peat, spices, black pepper, and cedar on the nose. Lively on the palate with spices, fresh dill, and noticeable tannins. Delicious complement with the meal. #domaineeden #domaineedencabernetsauvignon #santacruzmountains #santacruzcabernet #winelover #californiacab #californiacabernet #tgif #cabblend — 8 days ago

Family Farm Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

2012 Family Farm. Still in the late stages of primary. Beautiful light body, but dark color. Rich fruit compote flavors, heavy on the black cherry and some cigar box notes. Finishes with a hint of orange peel. Still lots of life left here. — 7 days ago

Small Lot Livermore Valley Dry Orange Muscat 2018

This wine has beautiful floral notes, and considering the grape, one might think a dessert wine is in the glass, or maybe an Albariño or Gewurztraminer. That’s not happening, though. This Orange Muscat is completely dry. The palate shows lime notes in an orange-laced and wonderfully acidic setting. Bring on the shellfish.

Monthly WTF wine group night. Our theme was American oak vs French oak. All wines tasted blind. We started off with two bottles of bubbly and finished with two non-themed reds.

One of my favorites of the night, and still improving. Everything about this was classic and balanced. Not overtly American oak driven but there is definitely a cooled coconut note with espresso on the nose. Dusty. Sweet tannins with juicy blackberries and underripe blueberries highlight the finish. Enjoyable now if you give it 1-2hrs in the decanter, but better in 5yrs. Thanks

This was a bottle consumed in an "American v French Oak" blind tasting and was paired with a 2012 Hourglass Blueline Cab. Stumped about 50% of people. Baby Bello in 100% American Oak, nose of black fruit, tobacco, a little herbal. Entered with good stiff oak astringency. Blackberry, tobacco leaf, oregano and basil notes. This wine was very balanced, and the finish of this wine still had quite a bit of stiff oak tannin but was very balanced and quite a bit more elegant than I expected it to be. Nice wine. The Hourglass definitely had more roasted notes and vanilla and toffee which gave the French Oak away to me. Vs. the Hourglass Blueline cab, this was my huckleberry.

Finca Las Moras

Bourbon Barrel Aged Limited Edition Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Gift from C.P. (Thanks, girl. Good taste.). After a hefty helping of “I just sold my favorite house” marinated for 24 hours in “seller might back out,” then roasted in “because the HOA can’t get it together,” this glass brings out the delicious and sweet flavors of the realtor’s negotiator skills and husband’s unwavering commitment to ANY project. Thank you C. Wish you were here to share. — 10 days ago

Small Lot Livermore Valley Merlot 2016

This Merlot-heavy blend (5% Cabernet Sauvignon) has a generous nose of smoke and dark fruit. The palate is rich with black cherry, mocha, vanilla and floral notes. Tannins are firm enough, but the sipping is still easy. It’s a really good, single-vineyard Merlot that deserves a hot ribeye.

Bodegas y Viñedos Maurodos

Viña San Román Toro Tempranillo 2015

The 2015 Bodegas San Roman Toro is another sensational release from this storied property in the Toro region. Toro saw very high heat spikes in 2015 so it is not surprising to see this massive wine weighing in at 14.5% alcohol. Needing a one hour hour decant, after some air this beautiful wine slowly unveils gorgeous aromatic range from black tea and Asian spices that mingle with notes of milk chocolate covered red cherry and tobacco leaf that are all marvelously woven together in the glass. The texture is soft and sumptuous, giving this wine a hedonistic edge. Suggestions of black forest cake and sweet pipe tobacco fill the palate, deftly mingling with minerals and peat moss tones. This finishes exceedingly long with dark fruits and minerals. While this is a delight to savor in its youth, the 2015 San Roman has both the acidity and stuffing to cellar well for the next twenty years. Drink 2020-2035- 94 — 11 days ago
