Opened the evening prior at 7pm and double-decanted; the bottle was left at room temp with the cork pressed lightly back into the neck until service. The 2000 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core and a slightly water rim; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous and showing some real power with a compelling combination of ripe and desiccated fruit: dark brambles, cassis, leather, dill, olives, spiced meat, tobacco and soft baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and whoa is it ever delicious. This has to be one of the wines of the vintage. Drink now through 2040. — 2 years ago

Beautiful wine for a fantastic aged ribeye. Earth, lavender, blackberry, opening up to red cherry and a nice finish. Silky tannins for a beautiful structure. The wine got better and better throughout the meal but was singing even at the open. — 5 years ago

Initially backwards and sharp-edged after 90 mins and a warmup from cellar temp this was singing. Classic Sangiovese, sour cherry and dark chocolate. Asphalt. Elegant and feminine. Perfectly aged Bordeaux is amazing. This was singing from the moment the bottle was corked. Deep rich black fruit with the subtle undertones of aged cigars. Still with medium acidity and smooth silky tannins. I true pleasure to have. Will go for another 10 +plus years easily. — 6 years ago

The closest thing to true Bordeaux style red blend from Napa. This wine really accentuates the vintage and the terroir, along with fruit and soil. The Dominus Estate manages the vineyard via dry farming, relying on nature for water, making a profound difference on great vintages such as 2016.
