Sur Lie Muscadet Serve et Maine Melon de Bourgogne 2021

2022 vintage. A bit rounder compared to Hyvernière. A very accessible solid Muscadet that sells for a song. Abv. 12,5%. — 4 months ago

Nerocapitano Sicilia Frappato

This is summer patio juice, chug a lug! Ripe red fruit like strawberry and cranberry. I’d have a little chill on it next time and serve with light appetizers, at 12% it goes quick. Excellent entertaining wine. — 3 years ago

Starting to fade. Give some time to open up and definitely serve warmer than you would think. Orange gold color. Oranges and pineapple on the nose and throughout the palate. Lacking some depth and acidity versus previous bottles. Still a fav of mine! — 5 years ago

Kessler Alsace Grand Cru Riesling 2014

“There is so much wine packed into this $34 bottle it must be tasted to be believed- except that when you taste it, you can’t believe it! The cacophony of aromas, the richness of texture, the profundity of the minerality… Everything about it is extraordinary.” - Ian Cauble, SommSelect. Serve at 50° — 8 years ago

Sassaia Veneto Garganega

Stopped in a wine bar in Hiroshima Japan called Lemon Stand. They serve natural wine and tonight’s option is this Sassaia. Wonderful surprise with nice acidity. Notes of apricot and oak but still young. This wine is delicious with the salinity of Hiroshima oysters. — 8 months ago

Côtes de Provence Rosé Blend 2021

Nice Provence rose.
From the label:
COTES DE PROVENCE ROSE

Owned by the Quiot family from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the 200 acre estate lies at the foot of Mont Sainte Victoire near Aix-en-Provence. Its winemaking facilities have been completely renewed over the past 3 years.
This is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre.
Special efforts are made to preserve freshness and fruit by the use of CO2 gas to exclude oxygen during the harvest. This is a fresh rosé with a pretty salmon-pink color, elegant flavors of red berries, mineral notes and a clean finish. Serve this wine lightly chilled. Very nice on its own, it goes well with most dishes, specially sushi, salads, pizza and mild cheeses.

Château Yvonne

Saumur Chenin Blanc 2018

Chateau Yvonne Blanc 2018: Despite being youthful with a very bright future ahead is so moreish and delicious in its infant stage. Serve 10-12 degrees in your large burgundy glasses and even better after some time in the decanter. And most importantly, make sure to get som while its still available.

Dense concentration on the nose with grilled lemon, ripe peaches and nectarines, honey, blossom a very integrated oak profile and a chalky minerality.
A piercing and electric acidity dominates the palate and cuts through and brings balance to the a full body with a waxy and creamy viscosity. Pronounced flavour intensity with full presence through the complex mid plate. There is definitely a long and very serious finish but falls short from being a hall of famer.

A very smart craftmanship from the artisanal organic and biodynamic Chateau Yvonne, the Saumur Blanc went through malolactic fermenation and spent 12 months in oak (20%) new

La Cerbaiola di Salvioni Giulio

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2021

Quite light ruby with wide pink rim . Very intense red cherry , spiced strawberry, raspberry , rose petals , dried Provençal herbs and crushed rocks . On the palate lovely sweet red fruits ; those spiced cherry , strawberry jam and raspberry present on the nose . Herbal notes and a hint of liquorice . Very elegant and refined , with good acidity and fine , polished sweet , but noticeable, tannins . Good length , with that saline tinge at the end . Very moreish even at this stage , young and fresh with balanced alcohol (I would serve this cool however ) . Probably will improve over the next 5 years and last a further 5-8. On this showing a step ahead of the 2020. — 2 years ago

Sangiacomo Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020

Well, here we are in 2022 and what a hell of a year it has already been. This is a rather brutish Pinot - nothing dainty or feminine to see here. This wine is delicious. Serve a few degrees below cellar. Pair with duck or seafood. — 4 years ago

Beaulieu Vineyard

Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 1987

Somm David T

My previous notes are listed with a click on the photo & a short scroll. I opened this bottle four hours ago. It tasted past it’s prime from the bottle we had several weeks ago. This bottle showed lots of figs, dates, prunes & Eau de Vie Brandy/Cognac. It took four hours open in bottle to get back to my previous notes that I made nearly two months ago. Now, it’s beautiful dark, rich, beautiful Cabernet. If your well stored 87 BV Rutherford tastes over the hill upon opening, I wouldn’t decant it...that would be too much air for this bottling. I would open the bottle for an hour and let it stand. Then, pour into a glass for fifteen to twenty minutes and serve. It recovers magnificently. Deliciously perfect after nearly 30 years in the bottle. For the two of us, our last pour tastes like our previous bottle did after four hours being open in bottle. A splendid recent purchase for less than $50. — 8 years ago
