#sauternes so sweet and balanced. Third of three bottles for my wife’s 40th birthday. We saved the best for last, as it turns out. Honeyed layers as this gently warms in a Burgundy bowl - caramel, marzipan, toasted almonds, some petrol, apricot jam. Tastes exactly how it smells with the acidity taking a step back from the honey sweetness swirling around a luscious oily mouthfeel. Touch of orange pith bitterness on the finish - lovely wine. Indeed it pairs well with Indian food but the force of this wine could have easily matched even spicier dishes. Beautiful wine and what’s amazing is it seemed this wine could easily go another 20 years. Good Sauternes is ever youthful. — 5 years ago

Strega is an interesting Italian liqueur...better described below. I only sporadically enjoy it, but it's fun and tasty at each sip.
"Strega is an herbal, saffron-infused liqueur deeply tied to the secret world of witchcraft. Witches are said to convene in Benevento to perform rituals and honor Il Noce, the sacred walnut tree. (The lower part of the logo shows witches dancing with demons around Il Noce.) According to legend, Giuseppe Alberti, son of a grocer, saved a witch from falling out of a tree in the woods. In gratitude, she gave him the recipe for an elixir, which the Alberti family began selling in 1860, perhaps as a curative or restorative.
The liqueur's proprietary recipe is a mix of 70 herbs and spices which include Ceylon cinnamon, Florentine iris, Italian Apennine juniper, Samnite mint, fennel, and saffron. Saffron is the key to Strega's signature yellow color and it shares the spotlight with mint and juniper as the most pronounced flavors within the herbal mixture." — 9 years ago

Can’t fake that blue. Can’t substitute that Burgundy. Captivating nose with red roses, cherry, and forest floor. Palate is elegant with tart red cherry and white mushroom, high acidity, medium plus tannins, medium plus body, medium alcohol, and a long hearty finish. Cloud have saved for a few more years but over the moon enjoying it with a black truffle tagliatelle tonight. — 3 years ago
Ripe to bruised yellow apple, mushrooms, saffron, almond and walnuts husk. A but if phenolic grip on the finish. Will revisit day 2 cause it needs time to air. DAY 2: much better! Even more pure fruit, high concentration, slightly dried yellow flowers, less almond and some candied apple. Should have saved more for day 2! — 5 years ago
1982 Monfortino. I love this wine. I last had it at the epic magnum vertical in London a few years ago with Vinous. At the end of the night I saved one bottle to put on the shelf, this wine (ok, the other reason was that my better half is of this vintage, but the wine had to be incredible too!). It has an iced tea quality, incredible complexity and grip. Legendary. — 8 years ago
Saved this gem for a few years after our trip to BC wine country. The wild blueberry I tasted at the winery has mellowed with age, but there's still lots of dark fruit along with the earthier notes. Flavours similar to a port without the sweetness. Great with rare duck breast and blueberry sauce. — 9 years ago
A bottle saved from my trip to Bordeaux. Heady and complex, full bodied. Made from vines planted in 1920. Wishing it was available in NYC. — 9 years ago
Glad we saved this one. Loved it — 9 years ago
Surprisingly good all around for a $16.99 Grocery store wine! Saved it because I will buy more! — 5 years ago
Enjoyed this wine 1995 medic several bottles from my cellar. It's very deep red, goes with meat, pasta, or just enjoy it on its own during cold autumn season. Quit hight tannin. Probably the best French wines I've had. Don't know the current price, still saved couple bottles in case value increases over the years. — 8 years ago
The first day this one was in a really weird place. Typical mint, but with a strand of cough syrup running through. Day 2 it blew off and was back to the red fruit, cocoa powder, mint combination I know and love. I saved one glass and let it evolve over the course of the last week. Still going strong -- cherry cola, menthol and a bit maderized. It's a shame Heitz sold this vineyard to Staglin.... — 9 years ago

Saved in my cellar since purchasing it about 24 years ago. Deep purple color. Sooo smooth and silky. Some earthy tastes with tobacco flavors. No aftertaste. Just a little piece of heaven. 1990 vintage. — 2 years ago
