2006 maduración tardía

13 year old Kabinett at Müllen is just starting to enter maturity. Nose is pillowy and dense. Some citrus and herbs. Also slate. Palate has perfectly judged sweetness and is a true Kabinett. Mouth-filling, juicy with loads of citrus and pear fruit. Long and slatey but also impressive how stacked the fruit is. This has 20 years to go. But it is irresistible now. Müllen is the best. — 9 years ago
Sweet and bubbly. Great with chicken. — 10 years ago
Day 1: Not a better value in aged wine. Period. Green apple, slate, slate, slate and petrol intermingled with smoke and leather. Stunning nose. A bit tight out of the gates but uncoils over 30 minutes and become a symphony of aromas and a typical '96 Mosel with high acid, candied apple, almost apple-tini flavors. Lovely depth and purity. Remarkable wine.
Day 2: Nose is all candied apple/jellybaby with lovely slate and petrol. Almost a foie element as well. That smoke persists as well. Palate has terrific freshness and acids today with deep green apple fruit and a hint of sweetness. — 10 years ago

’04 was a cooler, higher acid vintage with limited botrytis. Nevertheless, this ABTSBERG Beerenauslese was tasting like true AMBROSIA, meaning “the nectar of the gods”. This heavenly Ruwer Riesling is quite drinkable now in a half bottle, but still has years of life left in it. You could pair it with a fruit-based dessert, but really it is dessert all by itself:-) — 10 years ago

Nose is minerals and apricots. Almost like a silky beauty to the nose. Very hard to describe. Almost nectar like. Like a wind blowing across a mountain lake that has apricot trees on its shore. You get those apricot flowers. Like perfect peak apricot flowers.
Palate is delicious and so juicy. Apricots. Minerals. Peach. Silky texture.
Some sweet minerals on the finish. Dried peach and dried apricot extract. Really beautiful elegant coherent blend of the minerals and elegant fruit. Finish is terrific.
This is really a wine of elegance. Nothing really jumps at you. It’s not huge in any way. Like great chassagne Montrachet made in the mosel from Riesling.
A hard wine to score. On pure elegance and balance it’s a 9.6. On its individual elements a 9.2. I guess I’ll split the difference.

It’s my favorite Riesling. Inexpensive, very fruity, very balanced, very nuanced. I’m currently drinking the 2015 vintage of this wine.
Note to the Editors:
The Vinyard is in BADEN, not Mosel, Saar or Ruwer.

What a terrific dry Riesling, opening with floral oil and perfume into a firm texture and acidic bite and long finish. — 6 months ago
