Not feeling the love tonight. I have had this vintage before and it has been magical. Love this wine. Usually a very complex oily joy. But tonight’s has been a bit harsh. Don’t think it’s spoiled but it’s definitely off. So let’s see how it does tomorrow. Some strong flinty elements but not much of the usual peach and apricot. History of Chapoutier family dates back to the early 19th century when current owner Michel Chapoutier’s great-, great-, great-grandfather Marius purchased estate & famous l’Hermitage vineyards. Medium Ruby with aromas of rich red/black fruits and spice. On the palate raspberry, cherry & black currant flavors with notes of oak. Firm tannins, well balanced ending with fruit, spice and cedar. Very nice! Tasting Sample. Has lots of room to bottle evolve. — 13 days ago
Medium Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits, floral and spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and raspberry with black pepper, fresh cut herbs and flinty notes. Medium+ finish, rustic dusty tannins, ending with fruit, floral, spice and mineral character. — 2 days ago
I bought this bottle 5 years ago for 16 EUR and I'm not sure about the current pricetag but man what a bargain it was. I had to dig deep into my cellar to pull this one but I'm so glad I did..
This is unlike anything I know from that region.
The nose is blood orange and olive and garrigue. The palate is magnificent. A very strong acid backbone, a very dry mouthfeel with those blood orange notes all along. A huge width and an soft mouthfeel, a power house of a mid palate with carressing tannins which create a drying layer, and eventually a very long, everlasting finish with that blood orange note which turns into blood orange peel in the end with a tiny bitter twist. This is greatness before my eyes (and tastebuds) — 16 days ago
From the great Henri Bonneau, along with Château Rayas, the master of CDP. (He and Jacques Reynaud were actually dear friends). It’s insanely expressive and its ultra intense aromatics leap from the glass.
The complex bouquet is layered with rich black and red fruit, leather saddle, wilted violets and savory herbs. It just floats on the palate with its supreme elegance, caressing texture and weightless intensity. So Burgundian in that sense. The finish is so long, lifted and intense, leaving you craving another sip when its flavors finally do dissipate. 04 Célestins is a total knockout. — 2 days ago
Blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 14% Syrah and 1% Cinsault, aged in both new and used oak, Deep Ruby with purple edges and aromas of dark berry fruits and herb pepper spice. On the palate cherry and blackberry with some spice on fine tannins. Full-bodied with nice mouthfeel on a long finish ending with herby forest floor character. Tasted twice, nice! — 14 days ago
