Wonderful nose of spicey oak and intense minerality. Saline. Rock quarry vibes. Lemon pith lemon flesh with hints of sugar. So complex and appealing. Hint of butter and loads of salinity. Nose is just a wonderful perfume. 9.6 nose. Showing so well. Palate is juicy and tensile with a killer rich texture and ample freshness. Chewy and rocky with great finesse and some green apple fruit. Lacey, juicy and slippery. Amazing purity and balance here and almost finished with some dry tannins. Just awesome. Like a white burgundy liquid drop amuse bouche. — 5 years ago

Wow. This smoked in 17 and I knew it was going to smoke in 19 for this little known gem of a 1er Cru. Haunting nose of sweet mid season cherry fruit, sous bois, wet earth, desiccated leaves, flowers (violets?), citrus zest and so many other nuances. Just a zany great nose. It’s screaming “I am Volnay” in my nose. Yes my nose. Palate is OMG heaven. Silken, sweet and seductive. Awesome mid season cherry fruit and perfect balance. Haunting finesse and a sphere like roundness and then such freshness that keeps it alive and dancing on your tongue. Such lacey, sweet and delicate tannins. Truly special. Unreal purity. 2019 is the real deal. This is liquid cashmere. It is so finely knit. Will be back in an hour as it opens up. 9.5 for now. — 5 years ago

Extraordinarily light color, especially since it’s from 150 yr. old vines (biodynamically grown). With that color and the 13.5% alcohol, it’s not made in the traditional mold. Nose has lots of just-ripe-enough cherry and pink grapefruit rind, the barest hint of an herbal note, and a little crushed stone. Forceful flavors but soft-textured on the palate. Cherry fruit with a pronounced bitter edge and lots of cracked stone powder. Acids are surprisingly low for such a low-alcohol rendition. Very good depth of flavor. Almost reminds me of the new wave Garnachas from Gredos, but with a little less acidity. Unique. Gonna try it with pesto since my basil plants are still producing like crazy. — 24 days ago

Great density to this ruby/blood colored Saint. Earthy nose expresses shiitake and River reed, wet mud and new leather; cocoa dusted. Elegance and refinement on the fruit rich entry of raspberry reduction, ripe blackberry and blueberry, big fruit tannins, savory, licorice, lightest pepper, red cherry, subtle cinnamon and clove.

Gorgeous nose. Mid season cherries, spice, mineral. Just opened and this needs at least an hour. Having it with dinner in a few hours. Palate is super. Lacey and so well in it with terrific finesse. Terrific inner mouth aromas. Complex and ethereal. Light as a feather but very substantial and builds spectacularly on the finish. Which is super long and flowing with cherries and minerals. Coats the palate. Brilliant and ephemeral. Will fill out over next two hours and get sweeter and more complex. Tannins are so refined. It’s almost like hi end Champagne. Stunning. My score will go up.
