Revenge of the Corona Dragon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

A little overpriced, but wasn’t bad.
Winery notes,
2018 Revenge of the Corona Dragon is Composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. Comparatively more Oakville fruit is in this blend, but does include fruit from St. Helena, Rutherford, Pritchard Hill, and Calistoga.

The label was worth the risk. Totally agree with your comments to.

I liked the 18 Battle of the Dragon a tad more than the Revenge bottling.

This label should be a big hit after we all get over the Coronavirus.

Cupano

Vino Rosso

Our host sort of snuck this into the mix, without fan-fair, during an evening of very lovely wines. Apparently a VdT without a clear and obvious vintage statement. This was Exhibit A for proof that great wines don’t need a vintage date when the juice is this good. Beautiful ruby color with a dark core. Everything on the nose and the palate were in the right place and this immediately took me back to my experiences in Toscano where I drank “generic” jug wine at a random trattoria that was made by the family and I wanted for nothing. I desperately wish more wines like this were in my life. — 2 days ago

Garnet red, very good clarity, moderate pigment extraction. Cherry, raspberry, strawberry in nose, cherry, herb and candied red fruit flavors with a hint of plum, seed tannin in finish with rounded mouthfeel and some skin astringency. Decent table red, very good value. 19% Sangiovese, 19% Nebbiolo, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Grenache, 10% Pinot Noir, 9% Petite Sirah, 5% Mourvèdre plus Carignan, Zinfandel, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah — 5 days ago

Thorne & Daughters

Wanderer's Heart Red Blend 2018

Alder Yarrow
9.4

If you had to pick a wine that somehow managed to capture the zeitgeist of what deliciousness means today, this little beauty would be a candidate for sure. Forest berries, Rosemary, juniper, cedar and sour cherries all crunchy with crystalline acidity and a dusting of tannins. A fantastic, yes, even exotic, blend of Grenache Noir, Cinsault, Grenache Gris, Mourvèdre, and Syrah from vineyards across the Western Cape of South Africa. 2018 Thorne & Daughters “Wanderer’s Heart” Cape Red Blend. Henry's Seven Barossa Red Blend 2017

A blend of 73% Shiraz, 17% Grenache, 5% Mataro and 5% Viognier, dark Ruby with aromas of dark fruits, licorice, pepper spice and floral notes. On the palate flavors of ripe blackberry and plum with licorice, espresso and oak. Well balanced, great mouthfeel, soft fine tannins and texture, long finish ending with pepper spice, smoky oak and cacao. Very nice! — 2 days ago

Rattlesnake Ridge Zinfandel 2016

Very savory showing. Aromatic herbs. Meat pie. Blood. Some of the tannin you’d expect from Howell. None of the fire you get with Dragon. — 6 days ago

Domaine des Ouled Thaleb

Vin Vieux Grande Reserve Ait Souala Red Blend 2017

2018 was a great find. Evocation of Madiran and Cahors wines, with Tannat and Malbec grapes. Very ripe black fruits, spices and toasted notes. Deep mouth and freshness well balanced. 17 is more flexible, is a bit more homogeneous and round. Definitely a very good quality / price / pleasure ratio.
