Puisseguin St. émilion, Libournais

Château Bellefont-Belcier

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Tonight's wine is the 2016 Château Bellefont-Belcier. A Right Bank Bordeaux blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

On the nose there is abundant black fruit, black cherry, blackberry, black plum, bbn lack currant, chocolate, tobacco, menthol, herbs, graphite, oak and earth.

On the palate the black fruit continues throught with black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, green bell pepper, chocolate, toasty oak, tobacco and earthy flavors.

This wine is full bodied with a firm, vibrant mouthfeel and medium + acidity and high mouth coating crunchy tannins that lead into a long dark fruit finish. Let's have a wonderful weekend and please be safe doing so. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

A lovely lush nose with plums, damson, spices abc mint. Gorgeous mouthfeel, good intensity on the palate but cold-blooded and clear fruit. Very good. — 6 days ago

Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Delectable Wine
9.8

The 1990 Cheval Blanc is a vintage that once upon a time I drank regularly, although I had not seen it since March 2016. Poured against the 1990 Lafite-Rothschild, this is the clear winner. Still youthful in color with modest bricking. The bouquet explodes from the glass with kirsch, mulberry, antique furniture and black truffle scents. With aeration it becomes more savory, the Cabernet Franc wanting to see more of the olfactory action. The palate is medium-bodied and comes equipped with a stunning velvety texture. This Saint-Émilion feels spherical, conveying a sense of controlled decadence but avoiding any ostentation. This is as good a bottle as I have encountered over the years. Brilliant. Tasted at Noble Rot's “Xmas” dinner. (Neal Martin, Vinous, December 2019)

Clos Labarde

St. Émilion Grand Cru 2016

It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Here is a nice one from Bordeaux.

Showing red and blue fruits with earth, wood, spices, peppercorn, tobacco and coffee.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Long finish with firm tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a very nice Merlot based red wine from Bordeaux. Still young and needs another 5 years to mature properly.

Still unbalanced and better with food. A Good quality wine, nice and engaging.

Needs a few hours to open up properly.

Will pair nicely with BBQ Meats.

A blend of 80% Merlot and the rest are Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

14% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$50.

Château Le Grand Faurie

St. Émilion Grand Cru 2012

Strolled into Trader Joe’s; the shelf was stocked with this. Couldn’t believe it. Picked up another half case. This is a phenomenal bordeaux and one of the best QPRs around. Haven’t tasted in a year and it’s just as memorable. Lots of great mushroom and sweaty gym socks with a dusty, tannic finish. Perfect example of a phenomenal wine at sub-$20 that drinks at 3-4x the price. — 11 days ago

Very deep, dark and intense. Thick deep fruit. Tannins pretty present. Densely packed and powerful. Not a charmer but packs a punch. — 15 days ago

Vanessa you say it so well. A fine wine paired with rack of lamb we shared together.

Château Larcis Ducasse

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Still very youthful & tight like most 05’s showing lots of black fruits, graphite, licorice & violets. Not sure this will rise to reach RP 100 pt score but will need a min of another 5 - 10 years. — 5 days ago

Château La Mondotte

Comtes de Neipperg Red Bordeaux Blend 1998

This was the star of Thanksgiving. The barnyard nose was (strangely) inviting with hints of white pepper. But the flavor... oh the flavor, was excellent. We let this breathe for an hour and could/should have let it breathe for another hour. The flavors changed from spices and cherry to smooth cola. A very long finish of pepper, toast and liquid smoke. — 7 days ago
