A beautiful, cool early Autumn evening, relaxing by a fire in the chiminea.
100% Pinot Noir, Disgorged February 2019.
Words escape me... Just wow!
(Notes later, I promise)
24 Hour Update:
Nose has yeasted dough, flat seltzer, limestone infused apple juice, hard crusted bread, oxidized red apple peel and bruised yellow apple.
Palate has tart yellow apple, saline puff pastry, faint lemon juice, limestone infused water, lemon zest with balanced acidity and a long, long finish. Outstanding.
The P-F wines always need a minimum of 24H open, 48H really if you have patience because then they open to just the most beautiful Champagne you've ever paid under $100 for, every time. No fear, the bubbles will wait over 48H so plan ahead for maximum enjoyment. — a month ago
Still a few years to deliver on its amazing promise — 18 days ago
Wine is going through a difficult period but contains such promise. Sharp, delineated, super long and super closedForget this for minimum ten years. I would probably score it higher in a few more years — 8 days ago
Cved 10/21/20. Beautiful light red color. Very lively elegant floral young red fruits yet stony notes that changed as I sniffed. A lean athletic elegant acidic texture that continues on to a super lengthy complex finish. Perhaps faded a bit over hours in glass. A young Gelsey Kirkland showing promise. What a wine to go with the Mimi Casteel philosophy and practice! With the effort to obtain from Morrell 65. Best New World Pinot yet, so distinct from the Burgs but equally compelling. Perhaps more so given the effort and youngling vines. One more intact bottle. Be interesting to see how it’ll age. Wow. Next day not much detectable in the empty glass unlike some others with lingering scents. — 8 days ago
Fresh and young. Not for folks that like heavy fruit Cabs and lots of Tannins. Shows great promise with further aging. September 2020. — 2 months ago
The nose on this is really nice. It’s floral, perfume, blueberry, and bright red fruit. The palate almost doesn’t match. Not in a bad way. Nose seem to promise delicacy and palate was big and powerful. It’s red and blue fruit with some salinity, rubber tire, and meaty smokiness.
92 for now. We grabbed a bunch on a good deal. I’m excited to see this evolve over time. Super young but really enjoyable now. — 12 days ago
Old school true Barolo aroma, not defined and detailed but potent and authoritative. The body is big and weighty, but not overripe and flabby like some other Serralunga Barolos. Shows a promise of greatness in the making. Maybe the naturally biggest of them all, except Giacomo Conterno’s. — 10 days ago
This Beaujolais shows light aging promise. Give a good 20 minutes to breathe. Light fruit and mint aroma. Light-medium body. Not very complex, but a welcome and surprising finish that lingers and may show promise to develop over the next few years. Thanks @GaryWEdwards for this one! — a month ago
