Leather, blackberry tobacco. Love this vintage Cune. Perfect with a prime flank steak and grilled veggies. Loved the Igor notes as well. Three layers and all terrific. — 5 years ago

What else can I say but...Ken Wright rules. All about the cherry and leather (hey, it’s my thing!). — 7 years ago

Had this Gruner ( have to go without the umlaut) at Hog Island Oysters in Napa during the summer and it was fervent with oysters and fried catfish so what the heck figured I’d give the Zonker another shot. Wait..that was my dog’s name. I meant Zocker. Love the citrus combined with great minerality. For a single vineyard US German varietal I really like this one. — 7 years ago

Very nice Cali blend. Not too sweet while it doesn’t give the blend it’s obviously Sauv Blanc, Semillon, Viongnet and..any guesses? I like it more the Conundrum especially at dB below $12 price. — 6 years ago

Love this Columbia Valley Chenin. Yeah some lemon and honey but the ‘17 has enough minerality to keep it from being too sweet. Glad to see some WA varietals getting deserved props. — 7 years ago

The Oakville Field Blend is really a fave rave of ours. Sure it’s@a Zin blend but it’s closer to a really smooth cab than a zin. Great notes of leather and spice take the oakiness down a notch. Really on of my favorite wines from my favorite winery. — 7 years ago

Because what else would you have with oysters at Hog Island Ousters in Napa? Citrus and some peach and really refreshing. — 7 years ago

Hey where have I been? Well regardless really nice Vouvray with good minerality and long finish. Worth the time lapse in my reporting. — 6 years ago

Our friend Kelly brought this back from her trip to Oz and it doesn’t disappoint. Small production NZ Pinot with depth but not too much fruit so the top end finishes beautifully. Lots of tobacco and anise without being overbearing and one dimensional. I like the huckleberry side notes and enough earth tone to match up with some of the top Oregon Pinot that stays in the more traditional Burgundian style. — 6 years ago

Patz & Hall

Have to admit that Patz and Hall can really do a reasonably priced Sonoma Pinot well. Cherry and the right amount of Sonoma earth to be a cut above the Meiomi’s of the world. — 7 years ago
