Mar 8th, 2021Clearance priced at my local supermarket, only Grüner in the joint. But is it so old it’s past peak? (Given wholesaler practices in my home state of Arizona, entirely possible) light straw, excellent clarity. Clean nose with some floral and mineral notes. Nice acidity finishing toward a lactic-citric blend. Light on the citrus flavors, maybe lemon pith and grapefruit peel, some spice also. Not quite bone dry. Better with food, and better an hour or two after opening. Still life in this bottle, not peaked yet, perhaps. A more structured experience than fruit forward, however. Not that typical a Grüner then...

Jan 5th, 2021Tastes like a citrus salad — grapefruits, limes, and lemons. The refreshing acid is welcome on this rainy afternoon.

Jan 27th, 2018The wines are made by veteran French winemaker Christian Roguenant. Zocker (Austrian word for Gambler) owned by the Niven Family Wine Estates. Straw yellow with tropical and stone fruit aromas and hot spice. On the palate apricot and melon flavors with strong acidity and Cajun pepper spice. Crisp finish with minerality on the end. Needs food to enjoy.

Dec 16th, 2017Nice acid, more fruit than vegetal aromas, petrol and at 13.5-ish alcohol is quite subdued. Fun stuff.

Apr 18th, 2019Had this Gruner ( have to go without the umlaut) at Hog Island Oysters in Napa during the summer and it was fervent with oysters and fried catfish so what the heck figured I’d give the Zonker another shot. Wait..that was my dog’s name. I meant Zocker. Love the citrus combined with great minerality. For a single vineyard US German varietal I really like this one.
