Stunning. A total textural bomb, still very young but surprisingly accessible and open, which is the nature of 2020. Complex dark berry fruit, the sweetest, most velvety tannins, and that granitic edge only elite Hermitage gets. Powerful, deep and gorgeous. — 9 days ago

Killer. Granite, red fruits, smoke, leather, so so aromatic. Just filthy. Palate is teeming with energy. It is insane that this regular cuvée from Gripa is so overlooked. A shanda. — 2 months ago

Dynamite. Cork broke, but not to worry. The wine is so good. Deep, expressive fruit and bitter leaves. Earthy. Improving considerably as it breathes. And the bottle weighs 37 pounds.

Domaine de Beaurenard (Paul Coulon et Fils)

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2022

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Fresh red berries on the nose with Indian spices and chocolate notes.

Medium in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate and complex.

Showing raspberries, cherries, black currants, plums, light oak, spices, chocolates, earth, coffee, wet leaves and herbs.

Medium length on the finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This young Grenache blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape is very approachable, and already drinking beautifully, but needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly.

Well balanced and tangy, with good structure. Spicy and entertaining. Alcohol is nicely integrated already. Complex and engaging.

I had this wine as a 20 year old, and it was so much better with age.

This 2022 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape is already showing its possibilities. Will continue to age nicely in the next 25 years.

Delicious by itself or with food.

A blend of mostly Grenache, from 40 year old vines, with all 13 grapes allowed in the appellation. Aged in used French oak barrels for 12 months.

15% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2023

Paul Hobbs – Pinot Noir / 2023
Russian River Valley AVA – Sonoma County / California / USA 🇺🇸

Overview
100% Pinot Noir from select vineyard sites across the Russian River Valley. A refined, cool-climate expression that balances depth, structure, and elegance, showcasing Paul Hobbs’ precision-driven style.

Aromas & Flavors
Ripe red and dark cherry, raspberry, and plum, layered with subtle baking spice, vanilla, and a touch of forest floor. Oak is present but beautifully restrained, more of a whisper than a statement.

Mouthfeel
Medium+ body with a silky, polished texture. Structured yet graceful, with fine tannins and vibrant acidity. The wine moves seamlessly across the palate, fluid, lifted, and balanced.

Food Pairings
Duck breast, roasted chicken, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, or earthy dishes with herbs.

Verdict
A Pinot Noir that bridges complexity and drinkability. Layered and structured, yet effortlessly elegant, this is Russian River precision at a high level.

🍷 Did You Know?
Russian River Valley Pinot Noir owes much of its finesse to diurnal shifts, warm days build ripeness, while cool, foggy nights preserve acidity and aromatic detail.

🍷 Personal Pick
This is where Pinot becomes expressive without trying too hard. The oak is dialed in, the texture is silky, and the balance is spot on. It doesn’t shout, it truly danced in my palate! Cheers!

Domaine Bernard Baudry

Le Clos Guillot Chinon Cabernet Franc 2017

Lyle Fass
9.3

At dinner at Le Cabotte. Entering a gorgeous drinking window. The nose is classic Chinon, loaded with red currant, crushed herbs, mineral dust, and hints of cassis. Beautiful Cabernet Franc herbaceousness, not green or vegetal, but alive. Red currants, crushed herbs, a little tobacco leaf, iron, stone, and that unmistakable Loire freshness. The fruit has enough generosity from the vintage to give a subtle fleshiness underneath the structure. The palate is all tension and energy. Incredible freshness, mouthwatering acidity, and a long mineral spine carry the wine across the palate. Unlike Baudry’s larger, more powerful bottlings, this is about movement. The fruit feels suspended in the acidity, and every sip seems to pull the next sip forward. After forty minutes of air, the wine became even more expressive. The red currant and herbaceous notes moved to the forefront, joined by gorgeous minerality and tremendous freshness. It is not thick or heavy like Cabernet Sauvignon, nor does it possess the density of Baudry’s biggest cuvées. Instead, it is all acid, tension, energy, and precision. Juicy, vibrant, and effortlessly drinkable, with the kind of electric persistence that makes great Cabernet Franc impossible to put down. — 21 days ago

Domaine de Beaurenard (Paul Coulon et Fils)

Boisrenard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2021

Dark purple in color with a wide reddish rim.

Black fruits with wood, earth and chocolate notes on the nose.

Full-bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, spices, light oak, licorice, chocolates, peppercorn, coffee, earth and black tea.

Medium plus on the finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Grenache based blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Rich and concentrated. Showing good structure, but still very young, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Complex and well balanced, tangy and engaging. The high alcohol is not too noticeable. Needs time to open up properly, so be patient.

Wine Spectator 92 points. Robert Parker 94 points.

A good quality wine that will pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

A blend of mostly Grenache, with all 13 grape varieties allowed in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, from 80 year old vines. Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Grand Cru Brut Rosé Champagne

A small portion of Pinot Noir (which makes up approximately 80% of the blend) still wine is added for color; the balance is Chardonnay. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The Grand Rosé pours a pretty pink color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of raspberry, red apple, a mix of orchard citrus fruit, marzipan, a hint of brioche and lovely minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and round. Very easy to like. Drink now. Disgorged February of 2025. — 3 months ago
