On opening an oaky honied note which settled down. A sweet and savoury palate showing spicy berries and ripe cherries - perfect with homemade pizza. Not a typical varietal Grenache but a good midweek dry red just the same. From a producer new to me recommended by the Sommelier at the Downs Club. The following night a meaty note - much more savoury than fruit driven - quite delicious. Don’t normally have bottles only 5 weeks apart but there you go. Had a bottle on 25th November 2022. Typical raspberry notes on nose and palate - a nice wine. — 4 years ago

100 GR planted in 1910, WC fermentation, 50% uncrushed. At first, wound, really expressing old vine GR character; hot stones, white pepper, roasted herbs, pitch, iron, animal. With air the red fruit really starts to come out, moving from ripe to liquor, flowers, licorice, coffee, smoke, and coniferous forest. This has sinew and a little grit to the tannin, but there’s a beautiful acidity that this vintage seems to carry. Excited to see this progress. — 8 years ago
Excellent typical example of good Aussie Grenache. First impression is 'red Clare Riesling'. Clean with ripe red fruit (strawberry fruit roll-out). White pepper with a little heart. Best with a little chill. #blindtasting #australianwinetasting #yangarra #Grenache — 8 years ago

First bottle from a case of the 2020 Gigondas village from Ch. de Saint Cosme. It could even be my first time trying Gigondas from Louis Barruol, 14th-gen winemaker here, though I do recall a memorable St Joseph from my birth year that I enjoyed around ten years ago.
This wine is strawberry pink in colour, with good clarity. The nose is shy on the first night, better second; very pretty, with fairly light aromas of blackberry, candied cherry, liquorice, wild herbs, and a hint of grilled meat.
The palate is beautifully polished, striking effortless balance between structure and clarity, sweet fruit and acidity; the tannins are mild and it has wonderful grace through the finish, like a ballroom dancer gliding across the floor. Overall this is a really pure, fresh and elegant expression of Gigondas and has none of the rusticity for which this old appellation is oft known. In fact, it bears greater similarity to old-vine Grenache from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which is no bad thing. Also zero trace of heat despite the 15% abv. Very good stuff from Louis Barruol. This will age with Burgundian grace. Can’t wait to try it again – make sure to decant.

Absolutely outstanding QPR and noticeably better than the 2019. Deep and lushly fruited, great fruit density, silky tannin that brings a gentle grip. — 5 years ago

Plum, herbs, soft start and a grippy finish.
Hell of a value at $15. — 8 years ago
My impressions are very similar to my April 2025 bottle of this @Dave wine, mostly old vine Syrah from Pierre Clavel’s “La Mejanelle” vineyard, with small dollops of Mourvèdre and Grenache, low levels of Brett show (so, if you’re very sensitive to Brett, YMMV), solid finish, very good Languedoc!! — 6 months ago
13.5% ABV Salute to Lulu Peyraud of Domaine Tempier in France. Lulu’s father owned the vineyard , and she along with her husband took it over. Sadly we lost her in October 2020 at the age of 102 y/o. This is a blend of old vine Mataro and Grenache. Light salmon color, watermelon initially , later apple. Very nice! — 4 years ago
My last Gratitude, so now I’m bitter🥴
In the spring of 2018, our Winemaker, Jordan Fiorentini, headed Down Under to work a harvest in Barossa Valley, Australia with one of Bill Armstrong’s good wine buddies, Michael Twelftree of Two Hands Wines. During Jordan’s visit, the two bonded over their love of Grenache, and thus, worked together to create a wine from some stunning 70-year-old Grenache vines in the area. The 50% whole cluster fermentation took place in Barossa, but the resulting wine made its way back to Paso Robles to do its barrel-aging and bottling in our winery. This collaboration between two countries is the perfect way to say thank you to doctors, nurses, & volunteers who serve on the front lines during this global pandemic.

Very nice, great aromatics, lighter bodied Grenache but plenty of fruit and structure — 8 years ago
Interesting - grenache flavours but with a herbal/green infusion that you might like or not. I’m a bit on the fence. Savoury finish, not candied, fresh but back to back with the Yangarra old vine Grenache ($28 Yangarra vs $20 Cirillo street price), great prices, both quality but I’ll go the Yangarra. — 8 years ago
