— 4 months ago
Founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga Martínez, now run by Manuel, Isabel & Isaac Muga Caño. Deep Ruby, aromas of sweet red and black fruits with pepper spice, unmistakable Muga. 4 grape blend from the Haro district (70% Tempranillo, rest Garnacha, Mazuelo & Graciano), palate shows cherry and currant flavors with espresso, vanilla & toasty oak tones. Soft full tannins, lively acidity on a medium+ finish ending with an earthy mineral character. Nice value! Great vintage! — 5 months ago
Blend of 70% Tempranillo and 30% Garnacha, aged for 14 months in combo of European and French oak, a new red from Muga. Deep Ruby color with aromas of berry fruit, spices and herb notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with cacao, black pepper and slight citrus character. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, spice and herb floral mineral character. Good now! — 2 months ago
2010 vintage (half bottle). Upon opening, there was a split second hesitation as to whether the wine was skunked or not. Extremely earthy and funky nose though the taste and color assured that it was fine, though it surely needed a ton of time to come together. We enjoyed a Chenin Blanc while we waited for the Rioja. Revisiting the nose about 45 minutes later, it was clear the time alone improved it immensely. Alas, the classic notes of vanilla and oak and cherry that I so often associate with Rioja. Drinking it 20 minutes later over the next hour, the wine was showing incredibly well and so different from its previously unruly and spastic self. It was now much more tame and finessed, well integrated tannins yet still present, with nice acidity and a good amount of freshness. Incredibly enjoyable all on its own. A fun journey that had a rocky beginning but very rewarding end. — 5 months ago

Not a strong fragrance…
Drinks a bit tart/sour, with flavors of spice and tart fruit. — 2 months ago
We had the pleasure of drinking a 14 year old Rioja. Very old world as it was narrow on the palette with dark cherry, oak, vanilla all very well integrated and balanced. Good length on the finish, present. All aground a wonderful experience. — 3 months ago

Aged gracefully, super smooth tannins, dark ruby color, fruit perfect for a 14 year old wine. Thicker mouthfeel. Concentrated. — 12 days ago
