Of the 19’s, this one was showing the best. All Zin on the nose, but light, silky and elegant in the palette. I’m told this is the result of Evangelho’s beach sandy soils. As this is Bedrock, the vines are old with some roots reaching 40 ft deep. An unlikely wine from an unlikely place: just a BART ride away located between a power plant and abandoned Burger King. — 20 days ago

What a cool tasting

Caillard

Mataro 2016

Medium bodied, silky smooth, black through to red berried, fine tannin that gently grips, spice, long savoury-leaning finish. Quite elegant and balanced. Bought a dozen at half price as Caillard is apparently winding down :( — a month ago

@Simon Gilligan I did the same thing Simon. I bought some of this and also their Syrah which I had never tried before. Sad to see them go.

@Bob McDonald indeed .. I hope they’re exiting on their terms. I bought the 16/17 mataro, haven’t tried the 17 yet, and will keep an eye out for your review of the Shiraz :)

Victoria Shiraz Grenache Mataro Blend

Not a big fan of red normally but loved this wine. So smooth and jammy — 8 days ago

Evangelho Vineyard Heritage Zinfandel Blend 2019

Love it. That Bedrock spicy smucker’s strawberry and grape jam. Strong to quite strong herbs on the mouth. Gonna see how it plays with Vietnamese wings. — a month ago

Love this. Worries about opening a 2019 but it is singing! That spicy smucker’s strawberry and grape jelly on the nose and herbal thrust on the palate. Pairing with Vietnamese wings but can’t stop thinking how this would play with proper central Texas bbq.

WTF Delectable

Three Wine Company

Spinelli Vineyard Mataro 2012

Dark and thick. Inky dark fruit, blackberry, menthol, black plum skin, bramble, some oak. Tannins sit on top of the tongue. Acidity trickles down the side. There’s an initial tartness, maybe the black plum skin. The menthol and wood notes creep in with leather emerging. Blackberry and bramble round out the flavor. This is the best I’ve had from 3 Wine Co. — 25 days ago

Charlatan's Work Grenache Blend 2019

Best cuvee from Southold I’ve had in a while. Really digging this. GSM blend. Structured with perfect amount of fruit ripeness. Excellent food wine. — 6 days ago

The Hexe Paso Robles Grenache Blend 2017

Awesome...and surprisingly approachable for such a young wine (especially considering the 11% petite sirah that’s part of the blend). Was even better after a couple of days - good thing I have a few more of these in the cellar. Lots of fun doing a virtual tasting of this one with @David MacMillan and @Chris! — a month ago
