Alpine Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

2019 vintage. Light body. Fairly presh and delicate. Milk chocolate, rhubarb, strawberry, sandalwood and raspberry rolling through the experience. Seemingly carving out subtle extremes in what is actually possible in the SCM. 2.16.24. — 12 days ago

Estate Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot Blend 1999

Supple and more elegant than muscular. Wonderful on opening and even more pleasant over next two hours. It has a richness and a meandering way. Less focused than some of the more recent vintages from Monte Bello. — 13 days ago

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1997

Flight #2 of our 1997 Retrospective and these were the thoroughbreds. Presented single-blind; no formal notes. Wine #2 had great color, was developing, fresh, focused, balanced; great structure. One of those glasses of wine you didn’t want to end and, for me, a tough call for favorite of the flight along with Wine #1. I vacillated between this being Dominus or Monte Bello; ultimately calling the former. This is in a beautiful phase of life. Monte Bello is one of those wines that needs decades to show its best. Drink now through 2040. — 24 days ago

Horseshoe Vineyard Syrah 2009

Imagine a great Cote Rotie, Cornas, and a Cal Syrah step into a bar. The atmosphere is all French but the ‘Mercian makes it interesting and overblown with too much density. It was spectacular, but if it were a bit more reserved, and didn’t stain my Riedel, it would have been on another level. — a month ago
