Fleur de Craie Extra-Brut Champagne Chardonnay

What beautiful wine. The secondary fruit notes are coming through, some dried fruit, more body. This is still an insanely austere wine. Sea shells, lemons, apples, chamomile, flowers, more apples, orange blossom. It’s just so much better with the fruit tasting older. So glad I experienced this over a few years to see how champagne evolves. 2015 harvest, disgorged jun 2019, no dosage. — 8 months ago

Visited the Domaine today, and received this bottle as a gift with our order. Sorry to see Anne is leaving next month, to be replaced by an equally friendly lady named Elodie. This domaine is on fire with many 2018 based releases. The Special Club and Noces de Craie are superb. — 4 years ago

Okanagan Valley Cabernet Franc 2019

Yes and three times yes to this fresh and gourmet Canadian cab-franc, charmingly restoring the expected varietal notes (black cherries, raspberries, violet) vegetable notes, licorice, and mineral tip. The relief of the markers of the terroir (chalk, rifle stone) are not as revealed as in the Ligurian reference but there is a beautiful purity of the fruit that French mouths like mine know how to appreciate. Good price/pleasure ratio.

Beau rapport prix/plaisir. Je conseille.

@Joshua Fisher The quality of wines has increased overall over the last ten years. There is the displacement of humans and knowledge on the one hand, and also (for how long?) Global warming. Another expression of this.

So glad you enjoyed a wine from my country. Canadian Cab Francs and Syrahs strive to be old world in style . While it is not the Loire, it is beautiful.

@Alan Hense Indeed, I´m very happy to discover types of wines that we will rarely find at home. I will continue to explore as long as I am here. From what I have been able to appreciate so far, it is rather the nothern style, light bodied, (which I particularly like) that is best expressed. I saw gamays on a website and I would really like to taste them. This is rarer than other grape varieties.

Rosé de Craie Champagne Chardonnay Pinot Noir

These champagnes simply do not miss. Clear salmon in color with particularly active, attractive bubbles. The nose is so immediately pleasing and oh so clean. All the red berries that you would expect along with semi sweet bread and rose water. Chalk is a superstar here.

One of the more impressive rosés I’ve tasted. Composed of 90/10 Chardonnay/Pinot Noir, this is a smoother champagne. Elegant and rather substantial, this has nice weight to it. Nicely restrained acidity throughout with the terroir singing.

Immensely drinkable and bright. Vibrant red fruits abound. Spice on the tongue that elevates this. And some exquisite chalkiness. That’s what truly makes this a top notch wine. I will definitely have to get more of this.

Laherte Frères

Nature de Craie 1er Cru Champagne Chardonnay

First off, the prettiest label from the house with the prettiest labels in the game. Light straw with gleaming tiny bubbles that just keep coming. Immediately you can just feel the minerality and it is stupendous. The nose is pure joy with chalk, slight lemon zest, chalk, cantaloupe, and a little chalk. Lavender scents along with a plethora of apples to go with a bit of yeast and warm spice.

Another beautiful Blanc de Blancs from Laherte Freres. Pure Chardonnay with no sulfur added from a single vintage. The acidity is striking and so nice while the structure and finesse is typical Laherte quality. Very fresh with a high level of salinity. It’s a long wine with nice aplomb and character.

The traits of the nose carry over to the palate with a burst of ripe citrus fruits. More apples and melon on the tongue with that lingering spice. Lemons and fresh herbs go a long way. A very long, satisfying finish. That’s the story with everything from Laherte, all bangers, no skips.

Saumur Cabernet Franc 2018

Simple, light, but full of charm. Clear purple dress, beautiful shine. Nose typical of the cabernets-francs de Loire. Raspberry, geranium, violet, blackwood, green pepper (but not too much). The mouth is fresh and tense, with a beautiful mineral weft reminiscent of rifle stone, slate or chalk. Served at 15 degrees, it’s a nice treat.
