Jaimee Motley Wines

Argillet Santa Maria Valley Mondeuse

Once again confirming that this is one of my favourite reds ever. Austere purple fruit, but theres a definite ethereal quality to this wine. Crunchy autumn leaves, pink peppercorn, tobacco. This wine is pretty. Rivals anything from the Savoie. *mic drop* — 5 years ago

Rorick Heritage Vineyard Mondeuse Rosé 2019

One of the best roses I’ve had in a while (and in the perfect setting). Vibrant, textural and expressive with watermelon, cherry, hibiscus and a touch of garrigue. It’s a shame I didn’t get a photo with the actual juice because the deep almost magenta color was 💣 but the bottle didn’t last long enough... — 6 years ago

Pierre Péters

Cuvée de Réserve Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

What a treat! My motley group of merry gentlemen arrived at Marta, one of my favorite stylish-casual restaurants in New York, to the popping of the cork of this delicious magnum of Pierre Peters Champagne. One of my favorite grower champagnes for its focus, citrus bite and minerality. It was a terrific surprise for a special occasion that was both touching and gratefully received. — 9 years ago

Oktoberfest

Brewdog Oktoberfest
Columbus, Ohio

Rosy red amber with cream colored head. Transpaque or Oparent depending on your vista. Sheet lacing melts to hopscape in winter and often ghost ship’s ribbings. Cedar spirit breath leads to dark baguette and lastly pretzel. Zested kumquat. The palate is lip smackingly balanced with a zip of bitter chit as an anchor. The motley crew consists of cherry, savory, nutmeg, pecan, baking chocolate and glistening caramel strands.

Cabernet Sauvignon Peter Martin Ray 2017

Wow! Notes of star anise, forest berries, high toned blueberries, black tea, oak, mint, crushed flowers, alpine vibes. Medium bodied, long finish, 12.5 abv. Smooth tannins.
Such a beautiful and pure expression of mountain Cabernet. This is the gold standard!

Mycorrhiza

Dry Cider

What I would call motley cru of cider, and I am not talking generic grocery store Mott's 🍎 products either. Intricate flavors keep the palate interested to keep on slurping until all gone. Made from foraged wild apples. — 6 years ago

Elda Rosso Schiava 2013

This producer never fails to deliver quirky but beautifully made wine with an abundance of character. Predominantly schiava with a motley assortment of other unidentified varietals. Fresh strawberry with an earthy, herbal quality and a distinctly saline finish. — 8 years ago

Intrigued! I taste way too many “testable varieties” recently and not enough cool things. The Alto-Adige has been on my radar though. Particularly for their chill-friendly reds. Especially when saline (not a salt fiend or anything here). I’ll be on the lookout. Thank you for sharing.

@Ellen Clifford Try the Lagrein or the Teroldego too you can find some...they spell the latter as “Tyroldego” or just “Ty...” to get around DOC rules. Did I mention they are quirky?

Brooklyn Oenology

Motley Cru Syrah Blend 2012

Adore this wine, admittedly because it’s a special one to Kelly and me. But at least we picked a good wine to be special for us.

I don’t mess with a ton of Syrahs, but this one’s different. Earthy, not too dry but not fruity either.

Domaine Dupasquier

Vin de Savoie Mondeuse 2015

Wanted to compare and contrast this with Jaimee Motley's amazing mondeuse from Cali.
Nose: autumn leaves, earth, red cherries, raspberries, fennel, herbs, licorice, chocolate
Palate: dry, lean, austere, pink peppercorn, not a lot of fruit, cacao, forest floor, good tannins and acidity, some bitterness.

I prefer Jaimee's slightly riper fruit characteristics. But this is still a classic!

Chronic Cellars

Sofa King Bueno Paso Robles Syrah Blend 2017

Wow. Really liked this one. A motley crew blend of Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Tannat, Mourvèdre. A lot of my favorite grapes wrapped into one smooth blend. Paired this with some pork ribs I smoked on the Big Green Egg for 6 hours. Great match. — 6 years ago

Chappellet

Mountain Cuvée Proprietor's Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

Crazy motley of aromas going on here. Cherries, blackberries, cedar, and gummi bears on the nose. On the palate, vanilla, black currant, cloves, dark fruits, red fruits, I could go on and on. Smooth, spicy finish. Straight Bordeaux here. It's nice to drink wine made by people who know what the heck they're doing. — 10 years ago
