Il Fornaio

Il Palazzone

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Tasted alongside the 2013 vintage. Both wines were opened about eight hours in advanced and allowed to slow-ox at cellar temp (51°F). Comparatively, this was initially more reticent. Eventually, after letting it sit in the glass for about 30min and coming up to temp, damp earth (decomposing leaves), potpourri, sea breeze, mushrooms, and sandalwood on the nose. Cherry, black tea, and dried herbs on the palate. Towards the end of the bottle, this was gaining momentum and rivaling the 2013 in terms of enjoyability. Hold’em if you got’em. Better after 2025. — 2 days ago

Podere Il Carnasciale

Carnasciale Toscana IGT Cabernet Franc 2016

Delicious! So so good. Decanted for 45 min. Developing very well. Black cherry aromas. BlackBerry, and plum with touches of earthy and mint on the palate. No rush to drink and still developing and improving! — 10 days ago

Tenuta di Carleone

Il Guerico Toscana Sangiovese 2018

Pristine, bright, transparent. High-toned and high acid reminiscent of Barbaresco. Perfumed, feminine, light in color, fresh and fragrant like spearmint mountain air. 700m in altitude from Mello vyd. Had with homemade orecchiette, fennel sausage, chanterelles, broccoli rabe. Enchanting — 18 days ago

Il Colle (Carli)

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2017

2021/1/8-9 with leftover cotechino, etc. I adore Il Colle’a Brunello, and the Rosso is just as good for its appellation. There’s an abundance of cherries with woodsy and spicy elements on top. It’s open and generous, with hints of complexity too. — 12 days ago

Cantine Buglioni

Buglioni il Disperato Venezie IGT 2015

Must have a decent amount of SB in this blend because the aromas jumped out of the glass w/pineapple, grass & grapefruit - there’s a ton of mineral too. This is bright fresh clean nervy & zippy. Random gem here — 8 days ago

Il Principe

Trevenezie Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Ken Z

Drank 12/30/20.

A selection from the Costco Wine Advent Calendar.

From 325 mL.

Plum, cherry, leather, and a bit of spice scents lead to flavors of black raspberries, black cherry, and leather. A bit lighter, and higher acidity than what I'd expect from most cabs. I would think this had an Italian varietal blended in, but there is no mention of anything other than cab on the label.
