Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2018 “S” pours a slightly hazy garnet/purple color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of pomegranate, cranberry, strawberry, licorice, purple flowers, green herbs and crushed rock. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium+. I love me some Lapierre. Drink now through 2038. — 5 days ago

Last had 2 years ago and the extra time has been good to this. Really a lovely burgundy with some rotisserie chicken on the first snowy day of the season in New York. Red fruit, light earth, and minerality all in balance and expressing very nicely. Finishes with good acid and a real lift. Delicious. — 7 months ago

Hubert Lignier's Clos de la Roche 2001 is an elegant beast—powerful in structure, layered and unfolding progressively, with fleshy texture, dark fruit, and black pepper intertwining. It's a very 'un-Roche' Roche. I've had AR's Roche and Dujac's Roche before, but neither had this kind of sheer power.

The 2014 DRC Richebourg exceeded expectations. I wasn't a big fan of the 2014 vintage before—it's a weaker year after all. But this one only started to open up after three hours of decanting, from 5 PM to 8 PM. I poured it three times over the evening, and each glass showed a different evolution:

· First glass: hawthorn and sour plum soup.
· Second glass: elegant rose perfume began to emerge, along with white pepper spice.
· Third glass: fully opened—red fruit, floral notes, and licorice intertwined, with a slender, lean, elegant frame—charming and refined, never cloying.

My first Saint-Bris! Pale lemon yellow color. Plush aromas of citrus fruit, white flowers, chalk and abundant fresh herbs. Flavors of unripe peach, all those savory herbs, green apple and lemon zest. Noticeable mineral backbone on the long and drawn out finish. Lively and crisp acidity. Medium-minus body and wonderful freshness. Vibrant and harmonious! There are Chablis comparisons here. A beautiful deep red fruited nose along with earth. On the palate the wine appears angry that I disturbed its sleep. Gives me the red fruit found on the nose along with plums and throws in some spice & minerals. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of strawberry, raspberry, sous bois, red flowers, horse blanket, mushroom and a mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This is a fairly textbook example of the 2014 vintage with its rustic green streak coupled with Lignier’s charm. Drink now through 2029. — 8 months ago
