Tres Girard Morey St. Denis Pinot Noir 2018

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. No formal notes due to the setting but I’m pleased to report that the 2018 “Très Girard” is positively delightful at this stage of its evolution. Still developing, there is a pleasant mix of dark and red fruit with earth and spice and enough structure to gracefully continue its evolution over the next 10 to 15 years. Drink now through 2038. — a month ago

La Justice Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2016

Really nice Gevrey. Last had 18 mos ago and this is about the same, not sure there is a need to wait any longer. Nice tiny crunchy red fruit with great earth and good acid. Bit of that forest floor too. Great with a roast chicken and mushrooms. — 2 months ago

M. & C. Lapierre à Villié-Morgon

Morgon Gamay 2019

This wine is drinking very well now after some years of ageing. Fruit depth of dark raspberry and cherry, a bit of smoke, pleasant herbs and a bit of oak. Good complexity and intensity, Lapierre lives up to its status on this one. — 13 days ago

Morgon Gamay 2017

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2017 (S) pours a garnet color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and signs of fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with pretty notes of mostly red, tart fruit: strawberry, raspberry, Montmorency cherry, licorice, dried green herbs, menthol, and rocky earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and just a touch mousy but within the acceptable range. Refreshing and a lovely pairing with burgers on a warm Spring evening. Drink now through 2032. — 2 months ago
