Delicate, a kiss of sweetness with an herbal note. Minerality, of the warm earth, a beauty and elegance, still very much alive. Texturally and structurally beautiful. For this vintage, he hit it out of the park! — 5 months ago
+1 hour decant(decent chunky sediment). A splendid dark garnet color with little bricking. On the nose: Seductive notes of perfumed red fruit, dark chocolate, sandalwood, herbaceous, menthol, stewed meat. Taste: opulent, layered, silky wine with blackberry, chocolate espresso, dark plum, graphite, spice, and a licorice black tea slightly astringent long finish. 2nd wine for Harlan Promontory. — 9 months ago

Loved the wine. Drank Harlan Estate first so it was pale compared. Decant and filter. — 7 years ago
v19. Outstanding!!!. Golden amber color. Bold, saline, tropical fruit and toast nose. Fresh, creamy tropical fruit with hints of lime zest. Luscious soft oak finish. So good! — 2 days ago
Opened just prior to dinner. The 2007 pours a dark ruby/garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining and loads of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of BBQ Lay’s potato chips (fight me), prunes, dried brambles, leather, organic earth and mixed spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium acid. It doesn’t taste like BBQ Lay’s but the fruit is definitely more of the dried/desiccated side. The finish is medium. Drink now. — 5 months ago

rare to find a Chard as balanced as this one — 4 years ago
Earlier this week, a rep for Crown Point wines hosted a tasting to show off a few of their newer releases. New to me, they are out of Santa Barbara and have the duo of Adam Henkel (former assistant winemaker at Harlan for 8yrs) and Philippe Melka (who came on starting with the ‘15 vintage) making the wines.
This wine is their Estate Selection, which is 73% cab, 16% malbec and 11% merlot. I believe this was the first vintage for this wine. It sports a very soft profile and is made in a riper style. Aromatically it smells of baked boysenberry, fig and mixed berry pie with milk chocolate chips. The ABV is around 15.2% and it shows here. Extracted on the palate with chocolate covered dark fruits, baking spices, nutmeg and Andes mint. — 7 years ago
I have wanted to try this wine for a while, and I finally got my chance. It is spectacular. Finesse personified. Chocolate, black currants, blackberries, lavender, and a hint of cedar and tobacco. — a day ago
While very good, this one needs another 8 plus yrs.
Soft subtle nose. Dark cassis, blackberries, both plums, powdery, soft earth tones, moist clay, dark, chocolate, dry herbs & brilliant floral’s.
Soft, round body. Blackberries, black raspberries, plums, very dark cherries, it’s elegant, smooth, very soft tannins, dark chocolate, soft but pointed spice, volcanics, dry stems, violets, lavender, dark
florals, brilliant acidity, elegant with soft tension, great length with a 90 second finish that lands on minerals and beautiful spice.
If there is one thing I learned tasting 6 Harlan’s is Bob Levy is one of the very best, if not thee best at managing Cabernet/Bordeaux blend tannins.
Tasting with Winemaker-Bob Levy & Managing Director-Don Weaver. — 2 months ago
Earthy, wild/native California herbs, touch of iron, beautiful, sense of the earth, stunning, salinity and depth and richness and complexity. Texturally beautiful, long, so complete, great balance. So good!! — 5 months ago
The wine opened up quite a bit after decanting for an hour or so. Great tawny color, notes of sour cherry and raisins, long aftertaste. Will integrated tannins. An awesome bottle! — 9 months ago

1996 Calera Jensen Mt. Harlem Pinot Noir
Our New Year’s Eve wine is 1996 Calera Jensen Mt. Harlen Pinot Noir. The oxidation is prevalent. After 25 years, the wine has certainly passed its prime, but it is fun enough to enjoy. Goodbye 2021.
大晦日、2021年最後のワインは、1996年Calera Jensen Mt. Harlen Pinot Noir。酸化はだいぶ進んでいる。25年の時を経て、確かに飲み頃を過ぎてはいるが、十分に楽しめるワイン。 2021年よ、さよなら。

The 2004 at 15-years of age is still youthful! Well balanced as always, just a wonderful blend, love the fruit with tea notes, oak is fully integrated in the wine pure silk! Held up well against Harlan, Scarecrow, Morlet, Hall, & Rudd Cabs. Just a. Lass act! — 7 years ago

Two things were true tasting this 2022, it wasn’t their best bottling & it was no near ready to drink. Hard to tell which is more true. Maybe, it improves in time?
2022 Napa Cabernet’s more than less boil down to when did you harvest, before or after the 10 days of intense heat during the harvest window. #
