Azienda Agricola Le Ragnaie

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2021

2021 vintage. Medium-heavy body. Chunky with moments of clarity and moments of chaos. When it rolls in at the resto price waay under $30, compelled to pick up 4 cases. A fave Italian producer and this does nothing to dispel those feelings. 01.15.25. — 3 days ago

Serraboella Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2021

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of dinner. I’m just going to cut to the chase: the 2021 Serraboella is absolutely stunning. The wine pours a beautiful ruby color with a brilliant, transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with gorgeous, concentrated notes of ripe red and dark fruit: Morello cherry, roses, talcum powder, dry earth and exotic Eastern spices. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. This is a sapid Barbaresco with a finish that lasts FOR-EV-ER. There is so much power and grace. So much balance. In such a special vintage, the Cigliuti sisters allowed their fruit from Serraboella to become a wine that is sure to become legendary. Drink now through 2061. — a month ago

Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2021

Wow this is too young! Opened it, had a glass, then left it on counter for 24 hours. Better, but still needs more air. Cassis, dried meats, cherry, herbs, a bit of wood, more red fruits. It’s all there just need to open it in a decade. — 6 days ago

Villero Barolo Nebbiolo 2003

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two hours. The 2003 “Villero” pours a deep garnet color with a transparent core, moving towards a slightly orange/watery rim. Medium+ viscosity and no staining of the tears with significant signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of black and red fruit: black plum, Morello cherry, red roses, green herbs, leather, old wood and dried gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, however there seems to be more dried herbs on the palate, including a fresh mint. The finish is long, lasting for minutes. A beautiful expression from a very solar vintage. Drink now and through 2040. — 22 days ago

Great notes!
Interesting to see how lively is a Barolo from a very cool vineyard in a very hot vintage. You have to select well what to buy in different year.
Thanks and happy holidays!!
Btw Piedmont wine and Sardinian food sounds good!

@Ceccherini Cristiano thanks for the props. I’m convinced that Villero is such a special site that it makes great wine any vintage that isn’t washed out by rain.

Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno

Cascina Nuova Barolo Nebbiolo 2015

Stellar Barolo. Definitely of the new school, lighter color, lightly structured, but radiant fruit in a refined style. Decanted 2hrs. Perfect pairing for veal/osso buco, maybe less so for a roast. Some debate whether more age would refine the fruit further or cause it to dissipate. No idea but have two more so can experiment! Made me want to get on an overnight to Piedmont tonight. — 14 days ago

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese

Such a great Brunello producer. Every wine in the line up is excellent. Even the entry level Troncone, which is one of the great steals in Brunello. This bottle is in its prime. Smooth, complex, red fruit, black fruit, med tannins, long finish. So good! — 6 days ago

I love this wine, but the price of entry has become far too high…
