Yalumba

Single Site Swingbridge Vineyard Shiraz 2005

A very dark rich crimson colour for 14 years. Notes of SO2 and asparagus which persisted over 3 hours after decanting but no effect on the palate. Medium bodied showing the cooler origins of the Eden Valley over the Barossa Valley floor. Coffee grounds, chocolate and savoury berry characters with M+ Intensity. This was a period where Yalumba was experimenting with single sites trying to show the different influences of different terroirs they had under their control. Burgundy like you might say. They didn’t persist with the idea and these bottlings but a useful exercise nevertheless. — 13 days ago

The 2011. A magnificent example of Eden Valley Riesling. Lime, petroleum, dried flowers, dry with fresh acidity. — 22 days ago

9.1

Weekly Wine Committee. 1 sparkler, 3-4 whites, 3-4 reds and 1 dessert wine format. Served blind.

I called this a Riesling, but I thought it was Alsatian due to the lack of sweetness as well as the notes of petrol. Over time, the petrol notes just dominated. Slate, limestone, underripe pear and zippy acidity.

A bit skanky on opening but blew off to reveal lovely fruit and spine of delicate if not dusty tannins. — 2 days ago

Single Vineyard Estate Eden Valley Riesling 2012

This was the winner! The most affordable bottle of the three, too. So many layers to the flavor, but overall was a bit tart and tasted like brioche. Highly recommend! — a day ago
