Clos de la Coulée de Serrant Savennières Chenin Blanc 2009

Mid yellow in colour with greenish tinges. An oxidative Sherry like note. Mouldy ripe apple and apricot with a honeyed nuance. On the palate a full bodied white with a syrupy note. Ripe fruit developing a hefty 15.5% ABV. The delicious ripeness of the fruit hiding the high alcohol to an extent. This vineyard has a fascinating history. The Coulee de Serrant vineyard is a controlled appellation of only 7 hectares. The vineyard was planted in 1130 by Cistercian monks and today consists of vines aged from 35 to 80 years old. This Serrant wine was celebrated by Louis XI and Louis XIV as one of the best French white wines. — 8 days ago

Volnay Pinot Noir 2017

Very young, slight oak feel with a dark fruit, earthy and spicy profile, tannins still a tad hard but good potential. 88-89

Fruits noirs, épicé et terreux avec un profil un peu boisé. Des tannins un peu durs en ce moment même si c’est bon et que le vin a un bon potentiel. 88-89

Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart Brut Champagne Blend 2006

Delectable Wine

The 2006 Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine, but it needs time to be at its best. I am surprised by how tightly wound it is. But that only makes me think what it might develop into with time in the cellar. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint, crushed rocks and sage meld together in a bright, crystalline Champagne endowed with terrific purity. The 2006 is 60% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne and 40% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, mostly done in steel, with just a touch of oak, around 5%. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. (Originally published in August 2020) (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2020) — 9 days ago

Mes Gamays Coteaux Bourguignons Gamay 2017

A bit funky and reductive at first, really opened after an hour. Juicy blackberry, mineral, fine tannin, no carbonic. Have one more bottle and will be interested to see where this goes with some age... 😋 — a month ago

Platine Brut 1er Cru Champagne Blend

Tom Elliot

Base vintage 2015. Disgorged Nov. 2019. Far outperforms for an estate’s basic wine. Relatively full-bodied, complex, and very satisfying. Now I’m interested in exploring their higher qualities. — 20 days ago

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2015

Not yet released-polished, Christmas spice and candied cherry nose. Laced with sweet blueberry and light toast. Sensual wine at outset but tannins build. Restrained now, but expect it to sharpen and broaden in the next 6 months — 6 days ago

Sélection Chouilly Brut Champagne Blend

A lovely inexpensive champagne. A touch of pink. Dry after taste. Definitely will be trying it again. — 8 days ago
