Domaine Les Fines Graves

Château Smith Haut Lafitte

Pessac-Léognan Blanc White Bordeaux Blend 2014

This is a delicious Sauvignon Blanc from Pessac-Léognan. Crisp and refreshing with nice weight and complexity.

Nose is gentle and elegant. The palate is crisp, dry and rich.

Showing citrus, lemons, spices, light wood, green apples, grapefruits and minerals.

Nice length on the finish with limes and minerals.

A Good quality wine. Definitely my favorite white Bordeaux so far.

This 5 year old is drinking very nicely now, and will continue to evolve in the next 5 years.

Needs 30 minutes to open up properly and show more complexity.

Robert Parker 93 points. 94 points Wine Spectator.

I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

A blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sémillon and 5% Sauvignon Gris.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey

Sieur Sauternes White Blend 2014

Chateau dates back to 13th century, originally used as fortress. 1st known owner was Sieur Raymond Peyraguey, purchasing the property in 1618. In January 2014, Silvio Denz purchased Chateau from GDF Suez. Balanced and fruity, this ripe, sweet wine delivers both botrytis-like character and generous fruit. It has fine acidity to cut through the richness, giving intense sweetness. Drinks well. Bottle age will benefit. — 7 days ago

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

This took an hour decanted to open up. Out of the bottle it was clumsy and shy. Two hrs in it was a show stopper. — 12 days ago

Golden amber. Honey, dried apricots and nutty aromas. Full and opulent body, and lasts in the mouth for a while. Wishing for a tad more acidity. — 4 days ago

Domaine de Chevalier

Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Blend of 65% Cab Sauvignon, 30% Merlot & 5% Petite Verdot. A wonderful wine with ripe fruit, floral and spice aromas. Cherry, plum and currant flavors with a nice mineral edge, creamy soft tannins, lingering finish ending with a earthy mineral tang. Age worthy! Very Nice! — 14 days ago

An absolutely stunning lunch from @joe leatherwood today. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 5 reds and 1 dessert wine. All served blind.

Out of the lineup of the five reds, this had the aromatics that kept me going back for more. Initially, it reminded me of an older Ridge Monte Bello as I thought I got the slight hint of American oak, but it dissipated, allowing the bright black cherry, sandalwood, and herbs to shine. Gained some power as the lunch went on. Pipe tobacco, bay leaf, dusty blackberries and leather. The fruit was still tart (in a good way), showing how impressive this can age. I guessed this was early ‘00s Bordeaux.

Solid 97 for me. This one has this structure to go another 20 or so years easily. Served blind as the second of five red wines, between a 97 Phelps Insignia and a 97 Ornellaia Masseto. I guessed this was a 15 year old Napa Cabernet but I was definitely less sure about this one than the 97 Phelps. Guesses were all over the place with this one from the others. Sediment in the bottom of the glass. Had quite a bit of similar character to the 97 Phelps insignia on the nose with a hint of black cherry, blackberry, mushroom and dried herb. Yet, in the light, this had a deeper and darker crimson color with a very bright meniscus. On the palate, echoed all of the above also with a little bit of leather and pipe tobacco. Very powerful, full-bodied wine. This and the Ornellaia Masseto went the best with the New York strip loin without a doubt. Incredible wine. Cannot wait to try some slightly older vintages of this.
