Barthod needs age, and ‘06 Les Cras, one of my favorite sites in Burgundy, is showing beautifully tonight after some air, not at all clunky like the vintage can sometimes be, but instead showing both richness and elegance, focus and complexity, and at the perfect intersection of primary and secondary character. A terrific 2006. — 4 months ago
Cherries, vanilla, potpourri, spice and a bit of smoke on the nose. Palate still has a bit of oak sheen initially then opens up and integrates after a couple hours of air, dominated by tart red fruit (cherry, pomegranate, and framed by wood smoke, clove, licorice, dried leaves, and a slightly astringent finish that makes the palate water. Elegant, very chambolle, plenty of structure for the long haul — 4 months ago
2010 and still very very young. Doesn’t mean not enjoyable. Opulent cranberry and tart bing cherry. Loads of forest floor. Very powerful aromas. More than I’m used to with Barthod. Palate is still tight and needs air. After a while it really starts to sing. Amazing wine. Want to taste in another decade. — 3 years ago
