Domaine Des Croix A Beaune

Bouchard Père et Fils

Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus Grèves Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

My last bottle of the 2015 Enfant Jesus. Showing better than our last tasting which was unimpressive to be honest. Still tasting somewhat new World in this warm 2015 vintage. A bracken like brambley note coming through together with violet/rose florals. Enjoyable but not worth the money. Cannot see this improving with further cellaring. — 6 months ago

I have enjoyed this producers vineyard over many vintage and this might be the best.

The 22 vintage is stunning and as good as it is, 23 might be better based on a somewhat limited exposure at this point.

The entry is glorious…such balance and wire to wire it doesn’t change much.

Green apple, perfect lemon & lime pulp into subtle candy, grapefruit, white stone fruit, kiwi, tropical melons, pineapple, cream reduction, saline, perfect sea fossils, fine powdery taut chalkiness, crisp volcanics, white spice, grey volcanic minerals, limestone marl, mix of fresh & dry stubble herbs, honeysuckle, light caramel, warm lightly done toast, yellow florals, spring flowers with greens, grand waterfall acidity, beautiful structure-tension, incredible balance with an elegant finish that lasts two-minutes and long sets on volcanic minerals and spice.

Decanted 1 hour.

When I first started buying this bottling, it was $50-$60, now $150. Might be my last bought. My white spend has a more limited range than my red. Don’t think I’m alone.

A property Sofia & I have visited in 2015.

Domaine des Comtes Lafon

Clos de la Barre Meursault Chardonnay 2017

Definitely a wine that needs to be served closer to room temperature than the fridge and let breathe just a bit. Complex bouquet comes alive as it warms with key lime pie, caramel apples, white flowers, and Chantilly cream underlaid by chalky marl aromas. Awesome, but then again, you expect that in this price range from a premier cru. — 9 months ago

Volnay Santenots-du-Milieu 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2002

Gorgeous! These wines need age to soften and ‘02, one of my favorite Burgundy vintages is a beauty tonight, seamlessly evolved with a terrific combination of generous fruit expression, secondary earthy character and a velvety palate. Excellent. — 5 months ago

Les Pucelles Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2004

Medium lemon yellow , though within expectations for a 22 year old white Burgundy . Touches of smoky butter , lemon peel, red apple , ginger, chalky with wet stones and a touch of hazelnut . Complex , open and inviting on the nose , some development but still quite fresh and lively . On the palate this is intense with good grip , again showing the freshness from the nose , lemon peel , chalky , touch of white peach, sea breeze and lightly toasty finish . Long refreshing, mineral tinged finish . Perfect now , though benefits from air , becoming more mineral and focused with time and will continues to show well over the next 5 -8 years , maybe longer . — 6 months ago

Fruit forward with a nice earthy, barn-y, fried herb backbone! Very lush and unapologetic, ten years more in the bottle should help it integrate. — 8 months ago

Comte Armand

Clos des Epeneaux Monopole Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2012

Quite a deep colour , deep garnet , with a medium wide garnet rim . Needs time to open , quite discreet but quite deep and dark on the nose , with some blackberry tinged , liquorice , dark cherry , earthy sous bois . This opens up after a while to show more floral influences, lighter , redder fruits . On the palate this is quite dense , with a blackberry , dark cherry hint , earthy , mineral with quite grippy tannins . Good volume and density . Balanced acidity and earthy , mineral tinged finish. This needs time and improved quite a lot with air but really needs a few more years in the cellar , maybe come back in 5 years and will last well at least another 10. Promising . — 8 months ago

Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 2012

Medium light lemon yellow colour . This is quite reserved and closed , quite a difference from the incorrect Pucelles . Quite mineral , chalky and stony , touch of struck match , white flowers , some lemon pith , focused and detailed , with the freshness the Pucelles lacked. On the palate this is denser and richer than the nose suggests with lemon peel , touch of white peach , chalky and mineral , excellent extract and good freshness . Quite long rich and intense but still really well balanced finish . This needs more time , I would leave this another 3-5 years and will last well a further 10 years . — 9 months ago
