Beautiful wine with homemade shrimp cocktail for Oscar night. Think I’d have some buyer’s remorse at full retail. @Delectable where did all my wines go? My library only shows 78? — 4 months ago

Not the best showing of this wine. — 6 months ago
Opened a few hours prior to service and enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 1996 Asili, Riserva pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with lovely notes of Morello cherry, red flowers, some tar, leather, a touch of truffle, dry gravelly earth and a mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. A great pairing with controfiletto di wagyu. Plenty of life left in this. Drink now through 2041. — 7 months ago

Tangy dark fruit. Great purity. On the palate a tart powerful but clean middle. Sour cherry, violets, iron, tang. Great stuff — 9 months ago

98 was not a great vintage and why Giacosa bottled the SS as a red label has long been a bit of a mystery. There’s a lot in this wine to like, and no reason to leave it sitting in the cellar. Fully mature, ample bricking, softer but still lively fruit, rich mouthfeel with classic sous bois, a bit of iron, red berry and herbal overlay, and soft maybe a bit overripe tannin. Lovely, but not near Giacosa’s most memorable SSRs. — 3 hours ago
