Chaos & Harmony

Brown Estate

Chaos Theory Napa Valley Cabernet Franc Blend

Nice blend, jammy, fruity, berries. Medium tannins, hint of vanilla. A bit on the high alcohol side but well balanced. — 2 months ago

Dominus Estate

Dominus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

Another half bottle that delivered. Dominus is so consistent. Tight on the open. But after about 40 minutes this opened beautifully. Still so young but it is ready for the impatient. Bright fruit. Currants cherry in harmony with lots of earth. A rich wine. — 4 months ago

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2005

This is my third and youngest encounter with this elusive Y, and as always it is tastes like the epitome of hedonism. I had to take a moment alone with the wine just to acknowledge that, those who truly love wine, will know exactly what I’m talking about. The predominant flavours on this wine are orange marmalade, orange peel, and fresh tangerine… All working in unison on the palate, no single element ever outshining another. Creating harmony. — 8 months ago

Clos de la Maréchale Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2017

2017 vintage. Decanted and tasted for the next 5 minutes-2.5 hours. Medium body. Expressive oak and spice wizardry early on with sharp and clearly defined flavors all in a row. After approx 45 mins, the sharpness started to wane a tad and the harmony began to roll in. Good intensity throughout. Coming across this at least a half decade too early but this is built for the long haul vs short-term gratification. 2.10.24. — 3 months ago

Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2019

Perhaps the best young Châteauneuf-du-Pape that I’ve ever tasted, this extraordinary wine has power, but also elegance; purity, but also enormity; sweetness, but also umami. The aromas are classic for the appellation, with sweet blue fruit, Turkish delight, soy, coffee, heady garrigue and smoked bacon. But it’s the palate that steals the show, gobsmackingly gorgeous, with enormous presence and a near-perfect harmony between intense, dark, sweet fruit from the century-old Grenache, and bitter coffee, orange peel and a thousand other flavours that carry through to the finish. Super strong tannins at the moment; this wine will age superbly. The finish is incredibly long. They only make one cuvée each of red and white at Vieux Donjon - no high end bottling - and it shows in the incredible quality of this wine, which is up there with the very best. — 7 months ago

Corison

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Friday wine. This was a easy choice for National Women’s History month. An iconic winemaker. A true trailblazer. Exceptional wines. An endless amount of superlatives that can go with Cathy Corison. Her wines are described as having both elegance and power.

2013 Corison Cabernet was perfection in my glass last night. Winemaker notes describe the wine as having aromas and flavors tend toward the dark end of the Cabernet fruit spectrum with blueberries, black cherries, blackberries and dark plums all singing in close harmony. Complexing notes include tobacco, baking spices, chocolate, and savory herbs including sage, thyme and basil. Floral notes of violets and rose petals play with a notable stony minerality in the aromas and long finish. 13.5%ABV. I described this wine as being both elegant and stunning.

Grateful for the women who busted through those glass ceilings. Grateful for the trailblazers.

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2021

Delectable Wine
9.7

The 2021 Chardonnay (Napa Valley) is stellar. Wonderfully refined and airy, the 2021 impresses with its total harmony. It is especially elegant. Whether that is due to the vintage, a tendency to pick on the earlier side these days, or the combination of sites, the 2021 is magnificent, if a bit less showy than it used to be. Readers should plan on cellaring it for a few years. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, December 2023)

Anthill Farms

Harmony Lane Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

A bit darker and denser than most of the other Anthill wines made more up the coast but still showed well. — 10 months ago
