Château Saint Robert

Robert Biale Vineyards

Black Chicken Napa Valley Zinfandel 2017

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Sweet nose of black fruits, cedar, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco and black pepper.

Full bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, light cedar, licorice, chocolates, coffee, light earth and peppercorn.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.

This 9 year old Zinfandel from Napa Valley is drinking beautifully now. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel, complex and entertaining.

Drinking at its peak, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. Tangy and spicy, rich and inviting.

I had this vintage 7 years ago, and it is drinking much better now.

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Post dinner party notes. Third bottle I’ve had of this and by far the best yet. Amazing. Such a complex nose, with roasted herbal notes, dark spicy fruit, earthy mineral iodine notes Tannins just about completely resolved. Length and depth for days. Wow. — 14 days ago

Interesting. I might have this wine as well. I seem to recall it was so super oaky, couldn’t taste anything. Glad to read that it became more balanced.

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

A pair of 16’s off of Buccan’s list in PB. Way too young but started to develop slowly with air. I enjoyed both but leaned more to the Beausejour Duffau. — 7 days ago

Château Barde-Haut

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Roasted nuts, cranberry, fresh and earthy at the same time. Yet also ripe, but fresh. Syrah-like ripe red fruit notes. Slight bitterness from seeds and stems. Rose petals. Still tannic, this has a bright future. — 11 days ago

Saint Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

2017 vintage. Surprising length of finish that went on and on. Some initial richness up front before the usual, St. Estèphe tannic embrace. 4.23.26. — 19 days ago

Château Talbot

Saint-Julien Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1949

Actually deeper colour than the 1962 and 1959 . Slightly more medicinal nose , touch of swimming pool , lightly herbal with some dried fruit . On the palate this has a drier profile , darker dried fruit , slightly astringent acidity and quite gritty , rustic tannins . Slightly dry on the mid palate , but good earthy tobacco notes . Quite dense and robust , showing good backbone and body . Reasonable length , with earthy , gritty finish . Quite dense and structured. Not elegant but quite impressive for a 76 year old wine . Now and over the next 5 or more years , though obviously won’t improve. — 25 days ago

Château Canon

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1983

Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service. The 1983 pours a deep, slightly hazy garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe and desiccated dark cherry, blackberry, dried purple flowers, Poblano pepper, coffee, beef roast, earth and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This bottle of the 1983 was absolutely singing tonight and I found it to be a lovely pairing with braised pheasant. Drink now through 2033+. — 16 days ago

Tasted at the chateau from a pristine, recorked bottle… 🙏🏻 (💯 for the privilige of this evening….)
Second bottle was less good, more soupy and evolved.
