Clos du Château de la Maltroye Monopole Rouge Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2022

9.1

My continued quest to try as many 2022 Burgundies as possible.

On the nose, beautiful mid red berry w/ some darker fruits, bright red florals that are slightly withering.

Lovely, ripe, juicy strawberries, cherries, pomegranate, raspberries with tones of blueberries. Light dusty, dry top soils, dry twig, sagebrush, dry river stone, crushed, dry, limestone, some barrel shavings due to their 1/3 new oak use, understated red cola, baking soda, some light dry herbs, bright, red, dark & some blue forals, big acidity (maybe a bit too acidic) with a lovely fresh, elegant finish that lands a bit short. This doesn’t show a ton of depth now, but may in time.

@David T David have you found that 2022 is a better than average Burgundy vintage? 2021 appeared to be certainly variable.

Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 2005

My first Batard-Montrachet and of course, it’s poured into a Solo cup because, Tailgate. Let’s go! The 2005 pours a deep golden color and on the nose, though it shows oxidative qualities, you can already perceive the concentration. Dried stone fruits mostly and pineapple “pate de fruit”, lemon, quince, and nuts. The palate was most fascinating. The attack was brighter with acid and chalk and more tart fruit but the finish was dense, round ripe and dry stone and pomaceous fruit that seemed to cling on the tonsils. Almost like two separate wines. Due to the concentration and acid, this probably has years to go but the oxidative character isn’t going away so I’d probably drink now. — 2 months ago

La Comme Santenay 1er Cru Chardonnay 2017

2024/5/1-3. A lovely, country gentleman type of white Burgundy, from a vintage I am particularly fond of (as I was 295¥ 2007 also). Generous yellow color. No apparent oak influence, but lots of lemon fruit and subtle, natural creaminess. The finish is both mineral and also bready - the taste that lingers after eating a good, classical sweet baguette. — 7 months ago
