Active peach-gold and inscrutably, near opaque, with an arrogantly vaulted, whited foam tower, unblemished by human tears; clinging lacing like dish soap suds, tear raggedly to silhouettes of prehistoric headbutts. Soapy breastmilk and citrus rising on yeast, grapefruit pith peeled thinly, clover rolls just browning, and leather fringes. Lively mouthfeel as expected. Lime pith and grapefruit with papery ginger slices, orange zest, magnolia, carrot bread, straw, zucchini spirals, ginseng, and banana peel. Complex rusticity. .

Falling for all the first hints of autumn. Tonight, it’s roasted Red Kuri squash and Chassagne-Montrachet. This wine is in a great place, striking its balance between fresh, vibrant acid structure on the palette and seductive toasted hazelnuts, toasted sesame, and red apple spice driving the nose. Marzipan / almond skin, oxidized apples, pastry dough, and green carrot tops are amongst some of the deeper pleasures of the nose of this wine. Delicious!
Perfectly paired with Gillian Welch & Lucinda Williams in the speakers. — 8 years ago

Nose of smoked Gouda, fresh cilantro, and pressed carrot juice. The palate introduces baked blueberry and tart blackberry. — 8 years ago
Needs a good breathe. After an hour of carafe starts showing orchard fruit blossom, savory honeycomb, wax paper, crunchy pear and pollen. Precise and lean attack. Long finish with wet steal, wet wool, and finishes nutty. Carrot juice and sweet potato on the early finish. Was really disappointed upon opening. Glad I gave it some time to open up. — 9 years ago
Gift to my daughter for her birth year. Paired with carrot cake and cherry pie. Deep inky purple red. Sweet, raisiny wine with cherry flavor. More ruby in character, has held up well with age though it’s not a vintage port by any stretch, not enough complexity — 2 years ago
2020/12/19 with lardo-roasted quail, polenta, squash with rosemary and garlic and carrot green salad with walnuts. Pale and savory, with lip-smacking acidity, minerals and dried flowers. With time, bright but deep berry fruit and brown and green spices emerge. Lovely northern Nebbiolo. — 6 years ago
2018 vintage. This is crushable wine. It is so easy to drink.
Bright, shiny cherry red in the glass. On the nose, Rainier Cherries, celery salt, carrot tops and green vegetal.
Get tasting this. Crisp acidity with bright cherries, strawberries and cranberries. It has a juiciness that is refreshing. It’s a steal at $25 CDN $$ — 6 years ago
Grenache and Mourvèdre. Juicy red and blue berries. VA in a good way - carrot, dill. Pepper, tarragon, and dried black tea. Medium acid, medium plus to elevated tannins, 13% abv. Elevated intensity and long finish. — 7 years ago
Short’s Huma Lupalicious IPA. Pergola lacing. Warm oranges, carrot cake, white cherries, spaghetti squash, pineapple upside down cake, baklava, pencil shavings and pound cake waft from this bakery of delights. Rich, creamy and lemon-marshmallowy in scope, sporting banana pudding and lemon pith, lime and trailing bitterness of green onions and chewed pencil. Final note is zests of every citrus with an extra zest of grapefruit. From primordial pudding to a backbone of citric acid that makes even the lowest slug or troglodyte stand up. — 7 years ago
Full of minerals and terroir. A full bodied rounded tannin finish. Ideal for meat. This wine opened into luscious oily taste extravaganza. Loved every drop. Even wished with the anchovies and carrot cake. The Barn fur second bday dinner. 2015 vintage. 2018 September. — 8 years ago
Biscuits on the nose. Grapefruit and lemon extract. Sunflower husks, grilled carrot, cornflower, lemon bread, and a folding of butterscotch pudding over diatomaceous earth, lime leaf and chalk. Hard soda bread crust with exquisite lemon pulp and pith interplay. White pepper, iron shavings, salt and lime. Intensely balanced and intricate in its nuances. #Haton #Champagne #blancdeblancs #bubbles — 8 years ago
Dark, smokey, sauvage. No notes really, just delicious as hell with braised pork shoulder, flageolet, onion, carrot and harrissa — 3 years ago
An entry level Rufina, but so QPR in a medium bodied 95 % Sangiovese 5% Colorino blend. Drank over 3 days, & it kept on giving. Dark red fruits like ripe plum with bay leaf in the background; medium acidity with a fantastically chewy mouthfeel, almost grainy. For 11$ & change on sale, high return QPR. Matched perfectly w roasted carrot & Brussel sprouts lasagna — 5 years ago
Dazzling 70s lampshade orange hue, with a pronounced nose of peach and ginger, jasmine and spice. Each sip tickles the palate echoing its perfumed nose, and yet maintains an impressive level of couth complexity, revealing evermore as it sashays towards the back of my throat. This is a sexxxy wine. A sophisticated wine. Acidity, minerality and tannin come together in a waxy state of bliss. Have with lemon and herb roasted chicken, carrot purée and Django Rheinhardt. — 6 years ago
Strawberry, raspberry, peach, carrot, tart cherry, wild spices - cumin, fennel, VA in a really good way - dill. Peach and tangerine. Acidity - medium plus. Tannin - medium. Medium body. Medium concentration. — 7 years ago

Hedy’s main course was one of her very best. Charred Onion Crusted Beef Bavette, Carrot Puree. Onion Confit, Potato. I forgot to take a picture so I am using an older similar entree from one of her previous dinners.
The 09 vintage is clearly one of the best in my lifetime. It’s so beautiful and elegant even this young. I have six of these plus a 3 liter so it was good to be able to peek into its development. I double decanted it and poured back in the bottle and re-corked it around 3p. Served it around 8:30p.
It had evolved nicely for the steak. It was full bodied, lush, smooth and elegant. Dark currants, mocha, fresh cigar, soft leather, dry clay, round acidity and a beautiful finish. Paired nice with Hedy’s entree.
The 09 Lilian Ladouys was one of the top sleeper wines of the vintage.

So glad I still have some rare barrel to try. Even at 6 years the nose is bonkers. So much perfume. More floral, the carrot is less, vanilla and oak more, but there’s something so lovely bringing this all together. What an experience. — 3 months ago
