Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three hours. The 2021 pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with beautiful notes of Luxardo cherry, strawberry, red roses, crazy sun-Alpine herbs, and exotic spices, porchini, the powdered cheese packet from Kraft, mac & cheese, and dry earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose (save for the mac & cheese packet, lol). The finish is long, elegant and saline. Furthermore, the wine seems to gain body and weight with air. This might be the best Monvigliero I’ve had from Paolo Scavino. Drink now through 2051+. — 9 months ago
@Delectable Wine this is Novantadue92 Monvigliero. Thanks!
Debut Monvig from Rattalino and it’s a knockout. Heavenly nose. Ripe, complex, sour cherries, high toned, perfumed. Mixture of dried and fresh roses and insane glorious spice. Dizzying. The greatness of Monvigliero shines through. 9.6.nose. Palate is just velvet. So concentrated and ethereal. Big tannins and just perfect balance. So elegant. A big wine but a total masterpiece. Plum, red and black cherries dominate. After some time it closes down but the finish lasts forever. Imprints on your palate. 9.4 for now but I see upside here. — 6 years ago
Выпито в тот же день вторым вином с Саввасом и Николасом. Достойнейшее неббиоло. — a month ago
An excellent well aged mellowed complex ripe cherry notes. Willie finished bottle! — a year ago
This 2019 is drinking now although a little tannic in mid palate for sipping on its own. Add food snd it’s a whole different story. Paired perfectly with a pan seared big eye tuna steak. Cherry and licorice aromas and grilled cherry is primary fruit on palate. A great value Nebbiolo when A Barolo is out of reach, about $25 retail. — 4 years ago
Major decant needed. Nose is closed on open.
As it opens some lovely herbal notes.
Palate is clean. Tight. Closed.
As it opens tight cherry. Gorgeous.
Much better on day 2. delicious licorice. Fresh cherry fruit. Nose is blasting. Hand crushed mid season cherries. Spice. Roses. Some chocolate on the finish.
Either wait 5 years or decant 5 hours.

I had high expectations for this wine. Had the 2017 San Lorenzo a few months back, and it was at a really good place, so I was thinking this wine would show well too. Unfortunately, the Monvigliero is really disjointed right now. I decanted for three hours, and after the decant it was closed off. After a lot of air in the glass, it did seem to open a bit. The flavor profile reminded me of the San Lorenzo, with nice dark cherry, spice, and balsamic flavors coming through. It had good depth on the palate with a nice, autumn spice finish. But then the tannin monster decided it wanted to ruin the party. After a while the tannins seemed to completely dominate the palate and finish. Perhaps if it was paired with a more robust dish the tannins would soften a bit? I had it with a traditional bolognese, and the tannins were over the top. I saw glimpses of tastiness, so rating this at a 9.1, and I’m thinking the tannins will soften further in a few years. I left a glass worth in bottle for day 2 to see how it develops. At day 1 though it’s definitely not at a good place. Day 2 update: Had the final glass, which I had kept in the bottle rather than decant. Some interesting new notes of violets and white pepper that I didn’t notice yesterday. After the first few sips all seemed good, except perhaps the wine was somewhat closed. Then the tannins took over, and they started to completely dominate. There were also some mineral/iron notes that seemed to exacerbate the bitter astringency. — 3 months ago

Barolo 2012. Fantastic to drink now — a year ago
Dark garnet color with a ruby core. Aromas of cranberry, dried cherry, wet asphalt and dried rose petals. The palate features black cherry and blackberry fruit with hints of tar, tobacco, black pepper and baking spices. Nice mineral note on the very long finish. Medium bodied, velvety tannins and fresh acidity. — 2 years ago

Monvigliero 2017, smooth, full body, nice finish, almost not rhubarb feeling at the end.
Love it.

Gorgeous nose. Just insane. Cherries like you would not believe. Roses. Tobacco. Some tar. So utterly classic. Mint. Menthol. So so floral. Just a gorgeous aroma. Enveloping and nuanced. Spices after 10 minutes. Always evolving. Palate is complex, concentrated and pure. Really balanced with lovely velvety, ripe tannins. Nose shows pure strawberry after some more air. Terrific freshness and really elegant but also substantial tannins and structure. Needs age. Long. Great fruit. But man is this toothsome. — 6 years ago
