Pesquera Reserva Especial Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2017

Lots of oak on the nose and palate but in an interesting way; with mint, eucalyptus, and white pepper on the nose; minerally oregano, black currant, mulberries, and dragon-spice on the palate; and a long chest-burning satisfying finish. Alc 14.5%. — 15 days ago

Tinto Pesquera Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 1989

Provided by a friend for a go deep on older wines dinner pre-Christmas. Initially concerned that a storage mishap earlier in its life may have done some damage, but once opened for 20-30 minutes, it really started to sing nicely. 31 year old Ribera del Duero from a time when you still needed to know to buy these wines on release. Deeper than a Rioja, so good dark fruits, tobacco, horse leather, and the like. Enjoyed with standing rib roast and more than held its own with Bordeaux from the same year and other delicious wines. — 2 months ago

Dehesa La Granja Tempranillo 2011

Nose has cut fresh cherries, blackberries, dried cherries, prunes, old oak bark, black pepper and cherry concentrate.

Palate has dried cherry, dried blackberry, cloves, cured meats, bitter chocolate, vine bark and subtle/dry tannins.

Best when paired to food, ok alone. Decanted 90m, more time appreciated.

We were looking for an uncomplicated wine tonight to accompany our homemade pizza. A recent bottle purchase, already with 10-years of age, $17 was a good value in my book.

Univers Palomino 2017

Blew off its initial funk...two hours of air. Skin contact palomino fino from cult champagne producer David Léclapart & Alejandro Muchada. Palate is so creamy & lush, saline, lime, acidic apple varieties, dry honey, tamarind...like a manzanilla from another planet. Like a manzanilla refracted through a champagne lens. Really cool stuff. — 2 months ago

Tinto Pesquera Crianza Ribera del Duero Tempranillo

Brownish edge but hanging in there. Pleasant some fruit drying up. For a 35 yo crianza remarkably good. — a month ago

Tinto Pesquera Reserva Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2015

Deep Ruby with aromas of ripe red/black fruits with herbs, toast and sweet spice, aged for 24 months in American oak. On the palate flavors of ripe black cherry flavors with vanilla, oak and cacao notes, nice acidity balance with soft ripe tannins. Long finish ending with subtle fruit, tobacco, vanilla and toasty oak, drinking very well now! Still has room to age, but I think it’s great now. — 2 months ago
