Robert Biale Vineyards

Black Chicken Napa Valley Zinfandel 2022

Donald Patz
9.1

Robert Biale often makes Zinfandels with surprising finesse and energy. They’re delicious and sexy and well balanced. If you don’t think Zinfandel is worth drinking try any of the Robert Biale versions and let me know if you’ve changed your mind. — 7 days ago

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1993

Wow. Yes. Tough vintage, cool year with late heat spike pushing ripeness. This 1999 showed the vintage character well, not a powerhouse but well balanced. Gorgeous layers and nuance from black fruited, pencil graphite, savory tobacco. Impeccable balance on palate with melted tannins and well judged acidity. — a day ago

I almost went to this dinner but they couldn’t tell me the menu. Important as I have some food allergies. I also asked about what they were pouring and they could not answer that either. For nearly $600 a person, I needed to know. Looks like a great dinner though.

x good year to be obsessed about...standout wines of the night were the 91 Volcanic Hill and the 2001 Gravelly Meadows. Really wanted to like the 1990 Lake(I have not tried Lake before), but it seemed a little light with a sharp finish. The 91 Volcanic Hill was singing with expressive notes of dark cherry, cedar, graphite, peppery and a nice long finish.

x too bad, it would have been nice to meet you. They had a nice group of people at the event with plenty of pours of wine. Hope they had a late night party cause I'm sure the 20 of us did not finish a 1.5L,3L,5L,3L of wine. Cheers!

Opus One

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

+1 hour decant(decent chunky/fine sediment). A splendid dark ruby red color. On the nose: Intoxicating/intense nose of black fruit, dark currants, worn leather, forest floor, coffee grounds, minty dark chocolate. Taste: smooth, satiny, structured, balanced wine with chocolate covered brambly blackberry, tobacco, earth, cedar, black pepper, and a herbal licorice long finish. A medium body old world style wine that shows well right now and should continue to provide more years of enjoyable sipping. — 7 days ago
